...can anyone confirm that if Barrow do not finish either first or second in their league then it is certain that only two teams will be relegated from the Conference. This is because the other leading teams (Barrow are currently in 4th) have not applied to join the Conference. I assume this means that if a team wins the league they cannot make a late application but do not understand why second place could still be good enough for Barrow. Can anyone explain/confirm the details?

The best place to look would be Confguide where this has been debated at length on the forum and where Hoagy has posted the various rules.

We will not be in the bottom three so it won't matter.

It seems fairly clear then from looking at the other sites that if Barrow do not finish in the top 2 then only two clubs will go down. Whilst I hope it is irrelevant it must take the pressure off a little if and when this becomes more likely given the gap between us and the bottom 2 at present.

Barrow are currently 6 points out of second place having played the same number of matches.

It seems that the official position of the Conference is Champions only to be allowed up.

If this is correct, then we are probably now 14 points clear of the new relegation zone.
