I see you have lost a few of your pre-season games

Was just curious if your fans think you have had a good pre-season, or not, and if not if you are concerned for the next few games.

You have Hayes first up - so it could be a tough one.

Anyway good luck for the season

To be honest I think this pre-season has been one of the best. We've played a variety of opposition and hopefully learnt from each of them. Apart from the Gravesend game our losses were to lower opposition, an all too common factor we've experienced throughout the last few seasons and those matches I hope we've learnt from the most.

The 8-0 win against Erith & Belvedere was an experiment of what our strongest line-up should do to lower opposition.

The win against Margate and the draw with Colchester was to prove that we can still take the game to higher opposition.

But the loss to Gravesend showed us that we mustn't get carried away with ourselves and remember to keep our guard up.

All in all I thought it was a very strategic campaign that should hopefully make us ready for all aspects of the upcoming season.

defence.. we will, with the current midfield and attack, score plenty of goals.. when the one touch fast stuff aint working i think we sometimes dont shut up shop as well as we can (see g and n match at their place last season..a masterclass in defending) still its nearly always entertaining, except when we play croydon(thank god they have gone) chesham(always make us look bad at home) and purfleet(no one looks good against them)

Don't forget Hitchin as well CANV!

I remember both our games agains them last year. The away game... Simple we lost. The home game we squandered a 4-0 lead for them to bring it to 4-3. Thank god Adam Miller made it five before they were level!

I notice we've got them at home this season exactly the same time as last year!!!

That Chesham game was total travesty. Simply because Wardy was offcially on the scoresheet after putting the ball in the right net with some serious help form a Chesham defender!

Is Wardy your top striker?

Hell No!!!

Steve 'The Ginger Sex God' Ward is a top defender and probably the only player in the history of Canvey Island FC never to score a goal for us in the correct net!

But I thought you said he scored?

Oh well - who knows he might score a dozen goals for you this season.

(BTW - this new quicky reply box is excellent!!)

The goal was very clearly an own-goal, but it was announced over the PA as Ward's simply because the announcer either didn't want to embarrass the defender or wanted to finally give Wardy a credit, and as it was announced as Ward's the ref' noted it down as Ward's so it became official!!!

He almost scored a superb goal in last seasons ESC Final. But Gregors managed to out pace him and nod the ball in himself for his hat-trick!
