FULL REPORT.

Dorking suffered their first defeat in 4 games with a narrow loss at home to Chertsey Town on Saturday. In an eventful match, Dokring almost came back from a 3-0 defecit to snatch points against a good footballing side in Chertsey, a controversial decision midway through the second period proviing pivotal in the outcome of the match. With Dorking at 2-3 down, and having just hit the post as Dorking carved out chance after chance as they sought an equaliser which seemed a matter of time in occuring, Dorking won a corner. The ball was headed on towards goal with the keeper beaten and according to most in the ground, crossed the line before being scooped away by a defender on the line using his hand. The Dorking team turned towards the referee expecting either a goal or a penalty and red card for the offending defender, but the otherwise excellent Mr Sotirmirn clearly had been unsighted and waved for play to continue. Heated appeals by the Dorking team followed, but the "goal" was not given. The Dorking management after the game felt that this was a deciding moment in the game - had the effort been given, Chicks would have been level against a side who were rocking as they saw a match winning advantage being eroded, and could have possibly been down to 10 men with 20 minutes to go.

As it was Chertsey retained their lead and were able to extend their lead on the break as the game reached a conclusion in only one of two shots on target the visitors had in the second period, leaving Dorking beaten, but certainly not downbeat after a stirring performance in the second half.

Dorking had gone into the game without the injured Chris Roberts, and ill Steve Augustine, while regular full backs Hill and Bereton were away, so Dorking manager Tony Webb brought in ex Whyteleafe player Ollie Barrett at centre back alongside Roy Newman, while Julian Van Gelder and usual centre back MArk Styles filled the full back roles.

In attack Adam Pero was restored to the starting line up after his two goals on Boxing Day against Bookham from the bench, partnering Nigel Webb in attack.

Chertsey had gone into the game fresh from a Boxing Day draw at Egham, and came out of the blocks far more quickly than Dorking who seemed to take time to settle. Chertsey took full advantage, and although Dorking were carving out chances of their own with Pero, Webb and Fennessey all having chances in the opening 30 minutes, Chertsey were not only creating chances but more importantly taking the opportunities that were coming their way. First Matt Grave put the visitors ahaed on 16 minutes, then 3 minutes later the experienced John Pomroy made it 2-0. A simple goal from a corner as Dorking failed to pick up runners into the box saw Muldowney make it 3-0 on the half hour and seemingly put the resutl beyond doubt.

At this point Dorkng woke up and from the half hour mark onwards, especially in the second half, Dorking controlled the play and with the wind in their favour in the second period, Chicks were able to produce numerous chances, normally from set pieces as Chertsey struggled to cope with precision balls into the box.

Adam Pero headed a goal in the 44 th minute from a Migeul Beesley corner, and after a double substition that saw Ex Mk Dons player Tom Ahmed and Alex Wheeler join the fray at half time, Terry Fennessey headed his debut goal for the club 3 minutes after the interval,, suddenly Dorking were right back in the game

For the next 20 minutes Dorking bonbarded the away goal, but Chertsey, although visibly rocking, managed to withstand the onslaught, the closest Dorking coming was via a header which hit the post and the effort whcih Dorking players swore cross the line but was not given.

Chertsey were struggling to put together a real effort on teh Dorking goal, but with 16 minutes to go, the away team managed to give themselves a bit of breathing space when Pomroy got his second of the game with a well taken goal on teh break.

The goal seemed to knock Dorking's confidence, as although they controlled the game and still carved out chances, notably via the lively Fennessey and Ahmed, some of the momentum of earlier in the second half was not in view, and neiher side was able to add to the scoreline in the final stages of the match

Dorking now play league leaders Merstham at home in a league game on Saturday 5 January. As usual, children accompanied by a paying adult will be admitted to the ground for free.

Then on Tuesday 8th Januray, Dorking play another home league game against REading Town in a rearranged fixture following the postponement of the original game earlier in December. Kick off will be 7-45pm

You said you would! frown

I fear that whatever he picked up has done for him. He's probably laying in bed all sweaty and feverish now as we speak! shocked

I'm going to have to add to my stable. It's no good having these young colts who are off at the first sniff of a filly.

Remember, a little donkey isn't just for Christmas smile

He was listed in the programme on the bench, but I didn't see him during or aftewards, so assume he's still ailing.
