Vale v Woods Wednesday

Recommended Posts

FROM WOODS WEBSITE

Despite a couple of days of dry weather being predicted, Woods 1st XI game at Raynes Park Vale on Wednesday evening remains in doubt due to the amount of surface water and general water-logging at Grand Drive.

An early pitch inspection is expected on Wednesday morning and the outcome of this will be posted on here as soon as I receive details.

It is hoped that the Grand Drive pitch will be verti-drained today!

We will need a dry spell of weather to ensure that Saturday's 1st XI home fixture against Dorking can go ahead.

The pitch is reported as playable right now!

There are no problems reported for the Reserves Saturday game at Tonbridge Angels....yet!

Finally, Woods have signed Jimmy Davies from Cobham and former Kingstonian player Steve Symes.

Vale have signed former Worthing and Burgess Hill player Matt May and Williams will decide this morning about including him in the side to face Woods.

Also likely to get a call-up if his signing goes through is Lewis West, who was on AFC Wimbledon's books.

Meanwhile, Williams is handing over the job of Vale's youth team manager to Nick Mason, who previously had three seasons looking after youth development at AFC Wimbledon. At AFC, Mason's youth side dominated the West Surrey Youth League for two seasons and they were leading the Ryman Youth League when he quit the Dons.

Williams said: "That records speaks for itself. I hope it will also rub off on the Raynes Park Vale set-up."

The home game against local rivals Colliers Wood United, twice postponed due to the bad weather,is now set for next Wednesday.

Woods boss Matt Beard may use recent signings Olly Adams (Sutton United), Steve Symes (K's) and Jimmy Davies (Cobham) following major midweek upheaval at the Leg O Mutton! shocked

He said: "The weather forecast is far from optimistic. With just a couple of games in seven weeks,we will lack match sharpness.

"It's going to be hard to get a good result. These postponements are frustrating both for myself and the players.

It also means that we face a tough end-of-season schedule, probably with two midweek games over the last month to make up our outstanding fixtures."
