Welwyn 3-1

Recommended Posts

Fielding a squad of 22 players at Herns Lane this afternoon the Citizens played a friendly game against a Barnet Academy team winning 3-1.

Having not played in the league since beating high flyers Langford on 27th December. The managers mixed and matched their charges to give everyone a run out.

Richard Texeira put Welwyn ahead with a well taken goal 20 minutes in and 3 minutes later Jason Williams hit the post with Fabio Valenti on hand to net the rebound.

The visitors got their best chance of pulling one back when they were awarded a penalty just before the half hour, however, Welwyn keeper Rob Blackburne saved the spot kick to send his team in at the break 2 goals ahead.

The youngsters scored 4 minutes from the restart and it was left to Mark Blackburne's free kick five minutes past the hour to redressed the balance.

Richard Morton played the first half and Adam Wallace played the second.

Welwyn resume their league campaign next week travelling away to play bottom placed Homer Green, who have also not played a game in the League since just after Christmas, they did however beat Hambleden 7-2 in the Wycombe Senior Cup on 14th January.

In the league Kentish Town leapfrogged Welwyn after a surprise 2-1 win away against Langford.

With Welwyn almost back to full strength they look set to make an assault on the league table in the coming months.

There's a comprehensive article on the 3-1 win over Barnet Academy in the Welwyn & Hatfield Times, I expect you're fairly confident of picking up all three points at Holmer Green on Saturday:

Yes you are right Bilbo they are indeed twin brothers.

Welwyn look good for the win against Holmer Green on Saturday and if other games follow form they could pick up a couple of places in the league going 15th above Kentish Town who I would think are unlikely to beat Oxhey Jets even on home turf and Biggleswade United face Tring Athletic who beat them 4-0 just a few weeks ago.
