Midweek Action, w/c Mon 10 Oct 11

Recommended Posts

A far quieter midweek looms this week with now just one team in action, and that will be the Capital League side who travel to Harrow Borough FC on Wednesday evening in the 1st Round of the Middlesex Premier Cup, kick-off 7.30 p.m. The winners will be away to either AFC Hayes Res or North Greenford United Res.

The other match that was to be played this week, namely the Under-18’s away to Hampton & Richmond Borough U18, also on Wednesday evening, has been postponed, although the writer is unaware of the reason. There is no 1st team match this midweek.

As most Ashford supporters will be aware, the reward for Saturday’s win in the Preliminary Round of the FA Trophy is an away trip to St. Albans City on Saturday 22 October. St. Albans were relegated from the Conference South at the end of last season and now play in the Premier Division of the Evostick Southern League, in which they currently sit in fourteenth place.

We have met before but only once and that was at Short Lane in December 2002, when they beat us by two goals to one in the 3rd Round of the Bryco Cup, which was the name for the Isthmian League Cup at the time. Our goal that evening came from Blaize O’Brien.

Before that, of course, we travel on Saturday to Aylesbury in the League, when the home side will be under new management following the resignation of the previous manager after our home against them just a few weeks ago.
