Hillsbourough Disaster

Tonight, for all fans of football and not just those who have an affinity for Liverpool FC, there is no more important programme for you to watch (or Sky+) than Hillsborough: Searching for the Truth BBC1, North West (Sky Channel 958) starting at 10:25

Did the South Yorkshire Police cover up the full story of the disaster in 1989 when 96 men, women and children went to a football match never to return?

South Yorkshire Police had previously handled (or rather not handled!) the Orgreave situation in a competent manner...

David Conn has long been one of the very best reporters and writes superb articles (and books) about the game of football.

As for Orgreave and the 84/85 Miners dispute, it has long been my belief that the support the Thatcher government got from the SYP meant that when things went wrong on 15 April 1989

the then Prime Minister still grateful for the assistance provided to her by the SYP in defeating the NUM meant that she did all she can to support her favoured police force.

Did this include an official cover up?

Maybe the release of the official papers on Wednesday will confirm this belief.......
