Corby Town defender Paul Malone is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after it was confirmed he suffered a broken leg in two places durng Corby Town's 5-1 victory over Weymouth last night (Wednesday).

The Steelmen's stunning win over their fellow high-flyers in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division was overshadowed by the horrific injury to their talismanic central defender.

Just over half-an-hour had been played when Malone went in to deny Weymouth's Adam Kelly as he shaped to shoot after his first effort had been saved by Paul Walker.

But the challenge left Malone in a heap on the floor before he was stretchered off and then later taken to Kettering General Hospital.

A statement from the Steelmen's Twitter account this morning said: "X-rays at KGH have confirmed that Paul Malone has suffered a broken leg in two places and a dislocated ankle.

"He is being taken to theatre this morning for an operation. Best wishes to Molly and we are all hoping for a full and speedy recovery."
