Ebac Northern League club Northallerton Town FC have suffered a serious fire.

The root of the fire was a store room attached to the main building, namely the changing facilities. The cause of the fire was accidental.

No one was hurt or injured in the incident for which the club is truly thankful.

The damage was restricted to an outside store and the changing facilities. All changing rooms are smoked damaged and require thorough cleaning and redecoration. The main damage is to the home shower area where the roof is completely destroyed and electrical damage has occurred. The changing room itself has more serious smoke damage and the extent of that has been assessed today by club officials.

After consultation with the League Secretary, the club's forthcoming fixture against Heaton Stannington on Saturday has been postponed to allow us time to get all repairs completed.

A statement on the club's website said "Firstly, to the players of Romanby and Thirsk Town, playing their cup semi-final on the club’s secondary pitches, who raised the alarm and attempted to fight the fire. Without their prompt action things would have been much worse.

Secondly, the club are very thankful for the speedy response and rapid action of North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service whose actions limited the damage to the club’s property.

Finally we wish to thanks those from the club’s community for their offers of help and assistance. To those from outside the club who have offered help and assistance, and also to those from the Northern League Football Community who have contacted us offering help, good wishes and support"
