Enfield Town 3 Sawbridgeworth Town 2

Recommended Posts

Not a pretty performance by any stretch of the imagination, but the lads came through right when it mattered at the end.

Geordie Hall started things rolling with a towering header after five mins but a hesitant defence allowed Sawbo force three successive corners before equalising on eighteen mins.

ET's were workmanlike on the break and Lee Smith was unlucky not to score, but Snowy should have buried the penalty when he instead hit the post - at least he got a bit nearer than the previous attempt last week.

Second half much the same with Town good on the break and Kevin Riley in the right place to deflect Billy Cove's drive into the net. At which point the Town were cruising but they lost their focus and a needless bad back header from Geordie allowed Sawbo to equalise with five mins left - however the lads kept fighting and that last minute corner allowed Kevin Riley to steal the winner and the cup was on its way to Brimmo.

All credit to Sawbo who made a game of it, interesting to see that neither side's midfield were particularly dominant.

And thanks to Mr Chairman (Robert E) for assisting Gilli Farenden in handing out the medals - it was a nice touch and a fitting end to the season.

I've enjoyed the three seasons in the ESL and the hospitality of some of the clubs we've visited (Romford, Eton Manor, Waltham Abbey and Stansted), now its time to move on to pastures new.

Congratulations to everyone involved in todays Cup Final. Well done to Enfield Town on your win and to the fans for your friendly, vociferous and totally positive part you all played. Special thanks to Ilford FC for hosting the game and hope all you forum fans will never get wound up again from folk thinking the Ilford pitch is no good - it played just fine when the Ryman Cup Final down the road at Hornchurch was waterlogged.

That was my Intention for both Kathy & Gemma,& both families. That is why I chose them to be Mascots & why I wanted to Dedicate the Game to both Mark & Luke.

They proved to be Lucky Mascot too.
