Northwood 1 Billericay 1

Well we all went to Northwood and expected a goal feast...I mean, come on, it's expected. What we got was a draw. Not that it was in anyway a repeat of Saturday's non event and some would say it was a fair result but the equalising goal for Nothwood in the 89th minute (was it an own goal...can someone enlighten me) damn near broke my heart and the hearts of the other supporters (not to mention the management and players).

Over the game I would say we were the better team with Hockkers scoring mid way in the first half but we did have the chance to finish Northwood off and didn't take it. A clearance off the line in the second half from a vicious Trott header and a free header from Stowe that went wide, we let them back into the game. Forbes and Game got a run out as subs in the last 15 minutes (as well as Wearham), Hockkers pulled a hamstring and could be doubtful for Saturday. I quite liked the shape of the team when the subs were introduced and am sure that with Cousins up front and Domer on the left, we were getting a bit more of the movement going.

In light of Hokkers injury (I think he may well be doubtful for Saturday), hopefully Bradley will be back. I would like to see Cousins partner him and stick Dormer or Ludo on the wing, with Stowe maybe coming on for Bradley, if he tires. The Allen / Cousins partnership did reap goals in the pre season game against Grays (that 4 -1 drubbing feels like years ago). Pat Sapps also was a God in the middle of defence, dealing with everything thrown at the defence in his own no nonsense style...For me, player of the game.

Overall we played better than on Saturday against Folkstone but we still seemed to hit the panic button and "lump" the ball up. And again, when we played football, Northwood didn't have a clue as to what was going on.

I'm sure we have the team to bring the club success for this season (and others) and like everything, a little bit oif tweaking and a dose of confiedence and we'll be there. I'm looking forward to our visit to Eastleigh and giving them a mauling. My message to the team would be "Come on lads, you know you can do this. Give us all a treat and start believeing you can spank every team in this league...'Cos you can!!!"

In the last two games the oppo has had two shots on target. It took two hours of football before Gothard had to make a save (even that was going wide!). With stats like that you'd expect six points, we got two. In my opinion the midfield is the problem area. It's wishy-washy, it's inconsistent, it exerts no control in a game and it needs changing. I sincerley hope that Forbes and Game are the answer.

We need to take better advantage of the times when we dominate the play. 9 goals from 8 games is a poor return for a team hoping to top the table. This failure to score when on top keeps putting us under pressure later on in games and is costing us points. We should have been three up by half time yesterday then a 90th minute [****!!****] up doesnt matter.

Fortunately the league seems to be concertinaing (is that a word?) so no real ground has been lost. Our players need to lose the fear and go flat out for a couple of wins that would see us right back up there
