Just done a bit of lunchtime surfing and lookie here...Dorking Supporters in Billericay!!! - As posted on their message board.

 

"I, unfortunately, live in Billericay. They are a well supported (550 average sort of gate, loads of fans in the blue shirts every match day)with quite a bit of cash. Justin Edinburgh is manager and I think they have one of the Allen clan playing for them. Ruddock and others of his era are seen there. They are trying to build a new all seater stadium over at Basildon (got planning permission problems)so there must be some big cash behined the team. Dunno who there backer is but I belive that they, like neighbours Canvey Island, are hoping for big things. Problem in the long term is that it is well and truly Hammer area and cannot see how they can ever attract massive crowds" - The Terrible Two

 

And my response...

 

"Just to put things right. Yes we have some players that are on a full time, 2 year contract.

Yes we are involved in the planning and building of a stadium at Basildon but we are not planning to move to Basildon. the stadium would be used for other activities and games and be an extension of the club. Our home is New Lodge, Billericay and our chairman, Steve Kent has insisted that is where we stay.

We are in the throws of building the club and team up for better and bigger things but our chairman is not throwing money at the club as he see's fit. he is an astute and successful businessman who feels that "cash injection" is a false dawn and that the club require a firm foundation so it can stand on it's own feet in the coming years.

Yes it is "Hammer" area but that isn't the issue as much as, so is Hornchurch and Dagenham. We can still command a large following as we promote the club throughout the town and surrounding area. Obviously, as is the nature of the game, as we become more successful we shall increase our following.

As for "unfortunately, live in Billericay"...Well, you'll find that many of us are very loyal to the Town and would take that comment as "if you don't like it, move". The problem with the Town is there are too many people that "unfortunately" live there and don't wish to commit to the community. Fair enough, no problem but if you wish to "unfortunately" comment about living there there, I suggest you "fortunately" find somewhere else to live". - GazzaBTFC.
