Northwood 1-0 Slough

Attendance: 189

by Nathan Plenty

Slough Town travelled to Northwood in cold, wind conditions, knowing that a win could see them overtake their hosts in the table and put them right back into the frame for a play-off place.

Slough started the better team, and with five minutes gone things were looking promising for the Rebels, but there crossing/finishing severley let them down and any chances they had were wasted.

Northwood had only one shot before the goal was scored, a tame shot from the edge of the area that went staight into Shaun Allawaya grateful arms.

Having said that, Slough weren't getting many shots in either. They managed their first on 25 minutes. Ryan Spencer, with more time than he realised he did, shot from the middle of the area but the goalkeeper managed to tip it over the crossbar for a corner.

Then, on 39 minutes, a freak goal was scored. Kris McHale unleashed a 40 yard effort. The shot was seemingly going wide, but it swerved in the wind and ended up creeping inside the far post.

2nd Half

The second half started in similar fashion to the first. Slough having the majourity of the possession, but failing to get any decent crosses in.

Midway through the second half, Eddie Denton decided to change things round a bit. Matt Seedel was bought on for the ineffective Danny Steet, and his presence had an almost immedieate effect, his fierce shot skimmming the top of the crossbar and going over.

But that was about as good as it got for the Rebels. Josias Carbon replaced James Saulsbury (i think), but that subsitition had little affect.

Slough had two very good chances to level the scores. First, Alex Haddow showed great skill to beat three defenders down the right flank, but he saw his shot blocked by a defender. Second, a mishit Matt Seedel shot was cleared off the line by the Northwood goalkeeper.

A fair assessment Nathan. There are a few typos and spelling mistakes. Carbon and Seedal came on together for Saulsbury and Steer and that isn't really clear from the report. I think forty yards for thier goal might be a slight exaggeration as well. Good though.
