Following the abandonment of the Essex Senior Cup Semi Final tie between Chelmsford City and Braintree Town on Monday 30 January the Cups & Competitions Committee has ruled that both clubs be removed from the competition.

 

The Committee found the violent, threatening and provocative behavior of the players and officials of both clubs totally unacceptable. The members felt that clubs of this level have a responsibility to uphold the values of the game.

 

The match played in front of 1200 spectators should have been a show piece for the Association and the two participating clubs. Sadly the events on the evening have left many with a contrasting image.

 

Both clubs have been fined the sum of £400 and each will forfeit their prize money of £500 for reaching the Semi Final stage of the Competition.

 

With regards to the Senior Cup Final scheduled for 28 March the Association has had to sadly conclude that Waltham Forest FC be given a walkover and so become the winners of the Essex Senior Cup for season 2005/06. This is unprecedented in the history of the Competition which has been in existence since 1883.

They're quite upset about it on the "Soapbox"...can't imagine why.

 

Players on the field plus bench fight, it only stands to reason...considering that the officials of the Essex FA were present.

 

Like the last paragraph...The word "unprecedented"...sort gives one the imnpression that the Essex FA feel both clubs have de valued a prestigious competition. Lets hope it recovers next season because it really is worth winning.

They're probably feeling vindicated in the description of their players and officials' behaviour as "violent, threatening and provocative".
