358...

....was the total of C*****'s attendance last night. Meanwhile rumours still abound over thier future plans. From C*****'s programme:

'The one frustration continues to be the size of our crowds. Saturday's attendance our smallest of the season was terrible for this league, especially considering how well we have been playing recently.

Its obvious that potential supporters don't appreciate that we are in the highest position in the clubs history and are a part-time team against mainly full-time sides. The club is now having to seriously look at its immediate future as it's impossible to sustain Conference football on this level of support.'

Read into that what you will!

Hey, I've just worked it out...

Put 358 with 787 and you get 1,145. The average number of supporters that Chelmo said they required to make the season successful financially...

Spooky....

Even MORE spooky Gazza - the average attendance for the 9 league games staged at MP so far = 1,250. So well ahead of the number required then!

Thier working 'emselves up into a frenzy on the C***** board. These rumours with Chelmsford seem to be persisting. I'm suprised given how this all started, that neither C***** or Chelmsford have issued a statement to REFUTE what is being rumoured.

I seem to recall an F.A. rule somewhere that if two clubs from different levels of the pyramid 'merge', then, for the next season, they must play in the lower of the existing leagues, not the higher.

If my memory is right, therefore, hypothetically of course, Chelmsford Island or Canvey City would play in the Ryman Premier League, not the Conference Nationale.

I wouldn't want to speculate on Jeff King's thinking for a moment, but I can't see him 'moving' Canvey Island FC. It's not outside the realms of possibility that he could seek an involvement at another club altogether, however. But then, what do I know about anything?

realistically you would have to be very concerned if you are a ccfc fan or cifc fan. If it did happen then both sets of fans would lose their identity, which in time those same fans who have turned up week in etc may just feel alienated and walk away. then the fickle sort of support who jump on a band wagon will certainlt not be around if it all went tits up later on. Conclusion being 2 shafted clubs. look at rushden now (debts mounting) <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

Some of the comments on the Soapbox are quite, well amusing.

As CCFC is a members owned club (so they say), sean has come up with a lovely touch. Keep the members and run the club as is and have a "silent" backer...

Yep...King will love that one!!!

On a serious note, both supporters, to a greater and lesser degree, must be wondering what will happen to their club. I'm not too sure a merger will come about but Canvey Supporters may well see their club start to suffer from the lack of cash and may well start to drop down the leagues.

Chelmsford...well, they may well get what they want. A man with cash to inject into their club. And from there, who knows...One point though (and I know it isn't any of my business)...money don't always buy success or happiness and who is to say the Jeff King can pull it off for a second time?

Interesting times, indeed.

Perhaps its the only way forward. To a lesser extent we are in a similar predicament as rumours are rife on a merger between Fisher and Dulwich Hamlets. They have the fans and we have the cash so its a fair trade off.

It sounds very similar to the Chelmsford/Canvey Island situation. Of course the Essex clubs are a lot bigger so there will be more commotion but as a Fish fan I'm prepared to listen to the merger talk and keep an open mind.

We're a club reliant on the will of one man so we have little say anyway but it is extremely disheartening to see little over 100 fans turn out for some games especially with the quality we have at our disposal.

its not fair to the players either. I suppose Canvey must feel the same. 300 fans in the conference is unsustainable.

If 500 Hamlets fans jumped on the Fisher bandwagon I'd be over the moon, otherwise longterm whats the point...

One final point is Hamlets ground is soon to be a Sainsbury's homebase so it may be the only option to them also. However they don't talk to Fish fans at the min so obviously its not wanted in Dulwich..

sean, I said, if you can't afford to take a bet, don't.

I take it from the tone of your post you would be happy with the merge and Conference football under JK.

Nothing like fighting to keep clubs identity for 8 years, only to give it up, three months after you've moved into your new home for the lure of an easy path into the Conference...

If you read what Ive said Gazza I wouldnt want a merger.

If the current board decided that an outside investor is the way forward then I agreee with that. Our form in the last 3 months is just about play off material so I dont think we are too many players short of being good enough to push for play offs next season anyway.
