I know the merger question wasn't directed at me but from an outsiders point of view, I would support Fisher & Dulwich combined.

I've invested too much interest to walk away now and where would I go...You can't just chop and change at will.

Speaking of identity what is all that about. Winning the Essex senior cup back in the 50's doesn't bring heritage.

Liverpool have identity, Arsenal have identity (AFC Wimbledon think they have identity). Clubs in the Ryman are family clubs and a social gathering excuse. No one has any history of note so whats the big deal. To see mergers is the way forward at this level, the only way to survive. A merger would bring a strong Essex side where the county has a distinct lack of ..at present.

The chance to see better football and bigger teams coming down to Chelmsford on a regular basis must tempt the locals. Am I wrong??

Most local clubs have "identity" because a large percentage of the fans have parents and grandparents that also supported the club.

I wouldn't say that we follow our teams as a social gathering excuse. Yes its nice to go away and have a beer and a chat but football is the driving force behind it, and the hope of success on the pitch.

Yeah I suppose, I may have misphrased a couple of points. The Essex sides do have identity as home town teams but its all about priority's.

If your happy having your home town side as a community centre, where the locals gather for the Bingo, comedy nights etc and a good time had by all then that's absolutely fine. But to truely go forward and have a good chance of nudgeing the league would require a merger or two...

Easy for me to say, the Fish change there name and badge every five minutes so we have a new dawn every year. A merger is the next step, perhaps its different from your prospective...

I think that at the moment (unless there have been any Jeff King developments today!) clubs such as Ricay and Chelmsford use the social side to raise money and also awareness of the football club in the local societies.

Both have decent facilities, unliek Heybridge but hey they can pay a £5,000 (ish) wage bill a week from their bar !!

No not at all, I merely voice opinion and views on mergers. I have something to say on the matter as my club is also subject to rumours like Chelmsford and Canvey.

Canvey have the cash, Chelmsford have the fans where we have the same situation. A merger suits me as I'm constantly disheartened by our lack of support so I have little to lose.

I concede it may be different for the two Essex teams concerned. I bring an outside view to the discussion..but maybe my views can be too black and white on occasion...

As debuts go it wasn't bad. We were poor last weekend so it was tough to bring Richards into the game as our midfield went missing.

He looks a good player but lacks pace. Didn't have any chances but linked up well in the second half with Steve Watts. We're very pleased to have him...

I agree to a certain extent Joe, "if" there is any truth in these rumours, then it would be good for Chelmsford (if they remained at MP) and bad for Canvey.

I can't see too many Canvey fans travelling to support Chelmsford Island. However, I can see the support at Chelmsford growing.

Winners and losers, winners and losers.

So who are the Fish merging with Joe?

A lot of rumours regarding a merger with Dulwich Hamlets. Like I've said they're losing their ground so with our new stadium a year away it may be the only route for them.

Our owner also owns Beckenham Town (feeder club)and I beleive has some influence in DHFC as well so I beleive mid term its on the cards

More likely that King would pull out of Canvey and invest in City TC IMO. that way there would still be 2 clubs left to support.

Might even be a JE style promise at the start of thr season <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I would say that we can sustain things as they are TC but remember the loans from councils, directors and fans have to be repaid.

Anyone coming in with money over and above that would obviously strengthen the squad. We have had a lot of key players out injured this season and started with a very small squad and badly as well !!!

Most fans feel we are pretty close to having a play off squad. Maybe that extra money will give us the extra push.

Boylan to City?? Now that would be nice !!

So if money/loans from directors have to be repaid, then what is Jeffs money for?

you could argue that it will be spent on the team only,

but

Surely he would not want to be treated differently than other investors; therefore your club would incur further debt.

Or are the board hoping he will donate rather than invest.

I have no idea about the finances of CCFC except from what I read on various message boards.

I note that the general opinion on the ccfc soapbox is that you like the idea of an investor, but I see no genuine enthusiasm for Jeff king as an individual, just the money you expect him to bring.

I do not know Jeff, but from what I can gather, he is a genuine lover of football, and non-league football in particular. I think he deserves more respect than he is receiving on your message board. He's a football man, not a professional cash donator.

That’s just my opinion.

TC If Jeff King did invest then presumably he would take over as Manager. Thats one reason people wouldnt have enthusiasm as Craig has a loyal backing of most fans.

Maybe fans would prefer an investor who left the running of the team to Craig.

I dont know Jeff either and noone can knock what he has achieved with Canvey. Maybe once any rumour becomes fact we can think at it from a better perspective.
