The Fisher Game

Alongside Dover-a tough workout this one, and will give us a bit of an indication as to how we will do this season.

Main hope is that we have a new central defender and striker on show.

I wonder ?

Will be a very good test considering Fisher are full time and will have had at least 3 weeks of full time training. They should be right up to speed already. Could see the return of Anton Robinson, Charlie Taylor, Steve Watts and Lenny Piper so a few Gate old boys. Looking forward to the game.

Now that was good. Very good.

I think we might just be in with a shout of the title if we can play like that on a regular basis.

I was particularly impressed with the new goalie, Paul Nicholls. Always talking, confident and some good saves.

The whole team played really well.

Much fitter and some good passing.

All the goals were well taken.

England should turn to Danny to be their penalty taker! A cracker.

56 - (16) Pat Gradley for (4) Lee Protheroe

58 - (18) Lewis Smith for (8)Paul Abbott

I thought we were brilliant today and deserved the win and the amount of goals that we scored. Hockton was unlucky not to get his hat-trick. Everytime we attack we look dangerous and when we play a team with a weak defence we will score goals. The defence is getting better aswell, but still could be better. We need a left-back. And to say that we beat Fisher (who had their strong team out and were the best team in the Ryman last season in my books and contenders for the conference south title) 5-2 when we had 3 or 4 reserve team players out in the second-half makes for very positive reading, but lets not get to carried away. Well done guys and UP THE GATE!!

Alex, we've got an excellent left back in Justin Skinner who I thought was impressive in his first game for us.

Overall I couldnt help but be very excited after a good performance. The team seems to be knitting together well. I hope we sign Paul Nicholls who did very well and Pat Sappleton who had a good game also. Impressive and looking forward to next week now.

Bearing in mind we could sign Nicholls and Chalmer-Stevens, where does that leave Charlie?

[color:"blue"]Two Friendlies & 2 trialist keepers, both of whom have impressed. I couldn't get to the Millwall game, but I liked the look of Nicholls (Heybridge first choice last season?), didn't see enough of Chalmers-Stevens because our trialists in the 2nd half were attacking too much! (but read the glowing reports from those at the Millwall game).

Dare I ask the question - has anybody seen Charlie?

Thought Nicholls had an exellent game and should be signed up as our Number 1 for next season.

Was not to convinced on Stapleton but it was his first game for us.

Still think Deano should be first choice at left back.

Overall a very good game but I do not want to get to carried away yet.

When will Trotty lose his first game? Hopefully it will not be until after April 28th 2007.

I agree with most mentioned above. A good report also by June on todays game. I too thought Skinner was outstanding for his first outing.Gets stuck in & has a good eye.Very accomplished in what he did. He will do for me though Dean Standen did enough to impress when taking his place. Still prefer Skinner though. Both keepers were good. Will be hard to sort out a 1st & 2nd choice out of these two. Somehow something inside my head is telling me that Charlie wont be around but I may be wrong on that one. All the team gelled well & its nice to see strengths in all departments.Still not sure about Donovan.Pinnock impressed.

New guys all did well A thoroughly good performance and a day when we came good against an experienced side.Abbots goals were superbly taken as were the others.I think Fisher will struggle on that performance but it should take nothing away from the flowing moves, good finishing and teamwork today from our guys. Still with feet on the ground but hoping this continues into to the season proper & beyond.Am well satisfied with todays show.A very encouraging effort all round.Defence still not up to scratch but we have time to sort that one out.

As another post says lets not get carried away with todays result but it sure is looking good now,not just because of the scoreline but in the way it was achieved.

[color:"blue"]OK I walked into that one ... seriously though, has Mr Mitten been seen at Hartsdown at either of the friendlies or is he out of favour too?

BTW we don't seem to have a physio, is the 'large guy' (who took over from Griffo at the end of last season) the new Rams physio Half-way down their News Page

As far as I recall Charlie Mitten was last year signed on a two year contract and he currently appesr in the squad photos in the MFC site. I am not aware that he let us down last year and do hope that the fitness problems which seemed to affect him towards the end of last season have cleared up.

I have not been able to attend either of the pre-season friendlies so cannot comment on the two keepers but I understand from the reports that I have read that they are both good. So irrespective of what happens with Charlie, and I for one hope that he is still part of the equation for the coming season, will MFC actually be able to keep two goalkeepers of such quality anyway?
