A decent performance against Canvey "A" - team was:

1)Cronin (Another trialist)

2)Ricketts (Boyce)

3)Opinel (Hawkins)

4)De Bolla (Slatter)

5)J Smith ("Jackson")

6)McCarthy (R Smith)

7)Anderson (Roberts)

8)Quinn ("Chris")

9)Ekoku (McKenna)

10)MacDonald (Moore)

11)Keeling (Purcell)

2 goals from Charlie - one a penalty after Anderson appeared to be held back by someone laying on the ground - the second a cool finish after he was put through down the right.

Sicknote Battersby and one of my favourite trialists Gavin Heeroo both played for City.

A bit of a stroll in the Park really.

I dont think too much can be read into this game as there were just so many changes. But we do look like we have the basis of a decent footballing team.

I cant really name any names as I haven't a clue who came on and went off in the second half although I think Mr Purcell may be a bit tasty as he managed to clobber a couple of their midfielders within a few minutes of coming on! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/applaus.gif" alt="" />

What did make me think though, was the fact that I remember going to Chelmsford's old ground which was pretty atmospheric with nice people. This sports ground location really lacks any sort of atmosphere. It was a stark reminder of Croydon and Walton & Hersham and I really felt for their supporters, they deserve much more. Am I right in thinking they were playing home games elsewhere for a fair old time? I suppose they are back in their own Town at least.

All those out there who want us to change, change , change, must realise it HAS to be achieved in little stages. Its ok having a nice bar with a well stocked club shop (and they both were very nice indeed.) Its nothing without the ground (and team) to match it.

What was good though, was to see that I reckon Jeff King has made an ENORMOUS blunder! The fat chap really did look out of place with none of that swagger you associate with him..... priceless!

We normally have mobile terracing for 300 people set up behind each goal but as we weren’t expecting a big crowd and there’s an athletics meeting this weekend we didn’t bother.

Since moving to the ground we’ve averaged crowds of over 1000 so the atmosphere can be very good. Although Its not ideal, as you say its in Chelmsford and after nearly 9 years playing home games in Maldon and Billericay its great to be back.

And the nice people are still there.

I have to say I wasn't all that impressed with the ground to be honest, found that being so far away from the pitch there was no atmosphere, and you couldn't really call out to encourage the players when they were doing well. Other than that, the game itself was very entertaining, a good battle.
