Aylesbury 1 Billericay 4

A good performance from the boys although credit to Aylesbury, they hustled us at every minute of the 90. We started slow and Aylesbury took the game to us but a well worked attack left Hodges free on the right. Hodges crossed the ball across the goal, it zipped past Flack to find Nathan free at the back post to side foot into the net. Minutes later, Nathan was brought down by the Aylesbury keeper and the ref had no choice but to award a penalty. Hodges took, keeper saved and Nathan scrambled in the rebound.

Aylesbury certainly didn't give up and went close on a couple of occasions, one where Worster came out and looked to be beaten to the ball but did enough to put the Aylesbury striker off. They also had a penalty shout turned down...From behind the oppo goal it looked like the right decision but talking to Jamie Dormer at half time, maybe there was a case and the ref got it wrong....

The second half was much the same...a very combative performance from both teams refusing to give any quarter, Jo Flack having lots of space in their penalty box, shoots home to make it 3 - 0. I was busy texting my contacts (lots of 'em tonight), when Aylesbury made it 3 -1. The game got quite scrappy and played at a fast pace, with Aylesbury trying to get something out of the game but we were more than a match for them when Leon Hunter put a ball through to Jo Flack and he, one of the defenders and the keeper all clattered into each other and somehow Jo managed to get the ball into the net. 4 - 1.

The rest of the game really was played out but Aylesbury did try but our superior fitness saw us through. What pleased me about the game, apart from the result and our two 1st choice strikers bith scoring two, was the effort the lads put in, the play we made and the way we were fighting for every ball.

Difficult (and churlish on what was a great team performance)to say who was MOM and I'm sure there are those that will pick Nathan or Jo but for me Matt Game played a blinder. He was everywhere again, tackling, winning balls, passing and running into the box...another tireless performance from him.

Well, onwards to Folkestone....

A full bloodied cup match played at a frantic pace. Once Nathan had opened the scoring I don't think there was any looking back. Fair play to Aylesbury, they kept plugging away but the pace of the game soon knackered 'em out and in the end it could have been more.

Good value for the win I thought, created plenty of chances and their keeper was the busier. Aylesbury did hit the woodwork, but so did we and they did have a good penalty shout turned down, but so did we.

Great result and looking at that team it brings home the fact that we have some quality in depth in the squad, with Dorms suspended, Hill not used & Burbridge , Poole etc.. waiting in the wings.

I thought it was a good effort from us, there was a risk of complacency going into this game, but it was clear from early on that we were properly prepared and ready for battle.

No doubt that over the course of the two games we were the better side and deserved to win. As said, Aylesbury stuck at it gamely but in the end we had too much quality for them.

I think Folkestone on Saturday will be a tougher proposition but we can be pleased with a good night's work. Well done all!!

agree, we played ok in the first 20mins but then they were always come at us being the home team. Once we scored I felt we were safe.

Thought their number 2 was very good over the two legs, should be playing higher level.

Agree that Game was excellant. Infact I thought the midfield was string and Dormer may not find it quite so easy to get back in especially with Leon being back.
