Which Pink Floyd album should I buy? - Dark Side Of The Moon or Wish You Were Here?? Or maybe there's a better one you can suggest?? (I already have Piper At The Gates Of Dawn", by the way)

 

Please don't suggest anything post-1980. Every band has their sell-by date, and that was Pink Floyd's.

Hmmmm hard one to call, Dark side edges it (just) however I feel they are best live. Delicate sound of thunder would then have it.

Really tho the recent best of is very representative if you want a bit wacky try umma-gumma. each band member has a section to be self indulgent hence tracks like " several small species of small furry animals grooving together in a cave with a pict" but also includes "careful with that axe Eugene" and "Astronomy Dominie" as I recall. Now someone will tell me I am wrong, sigh.

I just need something different. I have 800-odd CDs at home and don't want to listen to any of them.

 

I look on the HMV website and the Amazon website and there's nothing I want to buy.

Then get floyd's Animals & Dark Side, Roger Waters Live DVD, which is good.

 

Then get Jools Holland,The Old Grey Whistle Test and Blur Best of DVD.

 

Then realise that you probably need a break from the new stuff. What you need to look at is may be the bands which influenced other bands, for example Radiohead have been inspired by Floyd, Smiths etc.

 

What influenced The Beatles? everything from Ravi Shankar to Ray Charles. I've harped on about what keeps me interested in music, diversity, bands doing new different stuff. You're bound to be sick of music at the mo as all we have had for the last 8 weeks is compilations of stuff we already have, there will be plenty to look forward to this year, you're just gonna have to be patient though....

You should never give up hope - for inspiration you could try:

www.thewire.co.uk - tons of links to band / label sites etc.

 

There's a whole world of music out there I would guess is not in your 800 CDs and is well worth opening your ears to.

The earliest album I own is probably "Please Please Me" by The Beatles.

 

I've a fair amount of other sixties stuff too... Dylan, Kinks, Love, Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Stones, Small Faces, Beach Boys, Zombies, Joni Mitchell, to name a few.

 

Think I'll buy "Dark Side Of The Moon" and a Joan Baez album. What's her best one??

Try the whole Carter back catolouge espeically 101 damnations and 30 something. You've told me CZ that you only have a couple of Carter singles this'll open your eyes.
