Dark Side Of The Moon

Recommended Posts

Ok, here goes...

Would Waters and co really have fitted their 1973 masterpiece around the exploits of Judy Garland? This extraordinary theory has been around since the late 80's and has divided Floyd fans into complete believers and those unable to see what all the fuss is about.

Basically, if you begin Dark Side Of The Moon when the MGM lion roars (argument rages over which of its three roars is the best) a number of striking, though not earth-shattering, synchronicities do emerge.

To briefly sample the many occurrences: when Waters sings, "Look around", in Breathe, Dorothy looks around. In the same song's reprise, Dorothy starts returning home from the fortune teller to the lines "Home, home again".

The wailing crescendos of The Great Gig In The Sky coincide with the house flying through the sky during the tornado scene. The movie changes into colour in time with the first song on the second side, Money. The lyric, "Don't give me that do-goody-good bullshit", coincides with the appearance of Glinda the Good Witch. And so on until the records ends with a heartbeat on final track Eclipse, just as Dorothy listens for the Tin Man's heart.

Apparently Floyd dismiss this, putting the theory down to, "some guy with too much time on his hands".
