NLP Dereham Report

Horns Dump Dereham.

Dereham once more failed to find the net as they fell to their second defeat of the week.

Hornchurch took the lead with just three minutes on the clock, when Alex Bentley tapped in the loose ball after Sam Mott parried out Fraser Blake-Tracy`s low drive.

They doubled their lead on the half hour mark when Tobi Joseph netted from close range.

Town did press more in the second half, but the victory was wrapped up 20 minutes from time when Joseph claimed his second of the afternoon.

Starman : Tobi Joseph

DEREHAM TOWN  0  HORNCHURCH  3

The first ever visit to Dereham proved to be very popular for Hornchurch supporters, with a large following in attendance.

Several changes were made to the starting line up, and Hornchurch almost took the lead inside twenty seconds when a Tobi Joseph cross reached George Purcell, who miskicked in front of goal. Worryingly, Purcell was limping after he swung at the ball.

Dereham threatened when Fraser Blake-Tracey cut inside and moved forward. Sam Mott saved the well-struck shot, Elliot Styles played the loose ball out for a corner and Mott, under pressure, calmly caught the ball as it came over.

There was a lengthy stoppage when home captain Ollie Willis needed treatment, and other stoppages followed, breaking up the play.

Home keeper Andrew Wilton dropped a Dave Collis corner, and Styles was first to the ball but his attempt was wide.

David Knight won a corner which came to nothing, but a second corner, taken by Joey May, almost produced a goal, when Dave Collis headed narrowly wide.

Sam Borror, who had earlier needed treatment, was replaced by Dion Frary, and within a minute Hornchurch went ahead – Junior Luke played the ball low into the goalmouth, Wilton could not hold the cross, and Tobi Joseph reacted quickly to play the ball across the line.

Mott fielded a home corner and at the other end Collis passed to Purcell who fired over. Two minutes later it was Purcell again, but his shot was saved by Wilton.

Payton Swatman replaced Willis at half time, and the second half started in unusual fashion – Mott fielded a shot from the half way line, and, also in the first minute of the second half, Dave Collis took a free kick inside his own half and Wilton did well to keep the ball out of the net.

Calvin Poku came on for George Purcell, and Hornchurch could have increased their lead when Alex Bentley made ground on the left, from a Knight pass. Knight moved into the middle to take the cross, but miskicked and the ball went wide. Another Knight shot, from a Joey May free kick, was blocked close to the line, and when Poku opened up the left side and centred, it was Knight again, but Wilton reacted well to save.

For a ten minute spell the home side came much more into the game as an attacking force, although Mott was not troubled in goal, and the pressure was eased when Poku combined with Junior Luke, before crossing to Joseph, whose shot was charged down.

On 69 minutes Hornchurch were two goals up – Bentley and Luke combined with Knight, whose cross found Tobi Joseph, who made no mistake with a first time shot.

Four minutes later keeper Andrew Wilton dropped the ball, David Knight quickly moved in, and both ended up on the ground – result – red card for Wilton, and a penalty for Hornchurch which David Knight converted against stand-in goalkeeper Fraser Blake-Tracy.

And it was Blake-Tracy who kept the score down to three, with excellent saved from Calvin Poku and Tobi Joseph, but the sting came in the final few seconds of stoppage time when Alex Bentley fell heavily on his shoulder, and was taken to hospital with a possible dislocation.
