Bit of fun tonight with the Slough boys, Rebel Boy, Martin and BFR on the jukebox.

As I have Aol, (oh they are crap waiting for my years membership to expire before changing to something quicker than an old man with a walking stick.)

The time I had posted a connection BFR and Rebelboy had posted 2 to 3 more.

hehe, the wonders of technology Mark. But in europe, they've got broadband nearly ten times the speed of our top speed connections

What about the 3.500 posts you racked up since January, before you got yourself some work!

That will teach you to go with anything American. They may have nice little men who make a mockery of the Open Championship, but when it comes to doing anything meaningful they are woefully inadequate.

Talking of broadband, can anyone recommend a broadband service to me? I don't know THAT much about the subject. I'm ditching dial-up very very soon, and I don't really want download limits and the like - unlimited use if possible, for a fairly cheap price. Any suggestions?

Depends entirely on where you are Matt - Slough isn't the best for broadband coverage. Going on what Mark Braintree has to say about AOL I'd ignore them. BT and NTL you would need to check to see if they cover your postcode. Tiscali do a reasonable service I've been told but again it comes down to coverage. There is a wireless broadband servie in the Thames Valley area called Netvigator which should be investigated if you can't use any of the others, though I don't know anybody who uses it.

As a rule, don't use anybody who imposes download limits if you are planning on downloading lots of films. I think BT are introducing a limit next year and I know people who have been sent letters warning them that they would have breached this limit if it was already in place. And for connection speed, obviously the more you pay the faster you get.

Personally, I'm on NTL, as they were the only company in my area who would install broadband without having to rent a landline. Once I move back to Slough next month I'll investigate the options for where I'm living, hopefully I can get away without a landline once more.

wanadoo don't have download limits, and it hasn't broken down on me yet. i'd ask BFR what he's got, as his is fast even though the bandwidth is split between two computers

Well, as Liam said, my broadband is split with a housemate through a router and it works pretty well. Just so long as both of us aren't downloading lots of stuff at the same time it works pretty well - for some reason azureus has the ability to slow down your computer rather than just your bandwidth when you use it, but it is still probably the best programme for downloading through bit torrents.

Well, I've had a little check and the only one I can't get is NTL. Some of them impose annoying limits like 2GB. Not that I'm going to be downloading movies, but I'd still prefer an unlimited access - I have AOL at the moment and was quite drawn to just upgrading with them.

2GB limits? How do such companies survive? 2GB is a couple of DVD-rips and maybe an album or two. I know that it is naughty to take things that don't belong to you, but even so, broadband was made to leech stuff!

Yes we would like to stress that downloading material from the internet is highly illegal and we cannot POSSIBLY condone it in any way shape or form

Of course not I wouldn't dream of doing anything of the sort.
