Predictions for Tuesday 22nd Aug

yet again, we haven't really been tested we went close in the first half when nicky rugg latched on to a nice ball and shot it past the keeper only for it to rebound off the post.

We dominated the first half with Ricky not having to make any saves.

In the second half it just looked as good as the first but with the REF being so poor it was holding us back slightly.. Dobbo nearly scored another 30 yard screamer but it just whistled past the post.

Ricky didn't have to make too many saves but he was quick off his line when it counted. Well done to him

Sorry to see Chris Bourne being helped off by the pyshio's, jay curran made a late appearence but to no aveil (spelling?)

Wingate & Finchley were nothing special and it did need something special for them to win.

IMHO it was a great day out.. also the Half-Time entertainment was great with Mark going in goal trying and succeeded to save to ball from going in the goal (sign him up sign him up) there was only a handful of W&F supporters, there was more canvey supporters (in full voice) well done YELLOW ARMY

The yellow army did indeed outnumber the home fans.

0-0 was prabably a fair result although we dominated, no team really looked like scoring although out of the two we were by far the better side.

We had a 20 minute spell just after the start when were all over them hitting the post, we tired near the end and let them into the game a bit.

Very poor referee, great club though, they were not expecting the Yellow Army to bring so many and their bar was very quickly over run, so we brought our own bar staff and they went behind the bar and started serving. It was a bit surreal seeing Sue et al pouring the drinks from a strange bar.

Nice people, nice atmopshere, spoiled by only getting a single point!!

Thought first half, we deserved to have a lead. W&F only had one half chance on goal.

If Rugg's shot was two inches further to his right, we could've been talking about a totally different scoreline. Alas, it hit the post and bounced away.

Second half, W&F had us sussed and a half-time substitution changed the pace of the game. We resorted to too much long ball and their no. 5 was winning absolutely everything in the air from Ricky's kicks to the midfield chip overs - He was a rock!

Was a bit miffed as the second half went on as it was blatantly clear that Leon was not going to win anything in the air up against their backline so I felt the Leon/Jay Curran sub was at least ten minutes too late.

A positive from that half though was the difference that Crow made when he came on. His introduction gave us width again and played everything to feet. He kept it simple and wasn't knocked off the ball as easy as Bourne or Lee Jay. Think he will be in contention for a starting place now while Bourne is out, (looked like his hamstring).

Thought the Ref was appalling as the game wore on and was unwilling to accept a second opinion of the assistants who were better positioned for the niggly fouls, (missing the blantant handball during the challenge which Curran was booked for).

I think we've learned more from 45 minutes tonight, than we did from all of our pre-season friendlies and a point is a point. I expect Saturday to be tougher still.

If I heard correctly the attendance was announced as 150, we must've been the 100 and the 50 were the Wingate fans who turned up for free at half-time!
