Wavyglanbles,

Good luck with your dissertation. I was kind of in the business for a while in the early days of internet commerce. I'm interested in what's happening with MyFC, but I've no need to develop an opinion.

MyFC is a crowdsource (or at least it would be in its pure form). There's an interesting phenomenon in crowdsourcing. People are actually driven to take time to do 'the right thing'. There's always a naivety and a leap of faith but the intent is usually 'honourable'. Wikipedia is another crowdsource. It has its faults but in general it has value. If you gather a large crowd of people they will tend to do the 'right thing' because people are generally more good than bad.

The intent, and energy/money from MyFC is probably positive.

The problem is that football culture is complex, and even if you try to do the right thing, you might get it wrong. You can see you touched some nerves above.

From the marketing perspective it was simple. Everyone knows that Football's got problems. Throw 35 quid at this, be part of a potential solution, be part of a community, and make the world (and football) a slightly better place. Simple. Worth a punt.

The risk is that the upside lies with the crowd (MyFC), and the downside rests with the Ebbsfleet fans. However the downside is never going to be completely bad. At worst Ebbsfleet gets a lot of money to clear debts, a few more fans and an owner (collective) with more heart and passion for the game than a Russian Oligarch. What's the worst that can happen? It just needs an acceptable exit strategy, that hopefully will never be required.
