Local stuff the last few days include

Black necked grebe at belhus cp

Scaup at mayesbrook park (both not seen by me yet!)

Barn owl & buzzard on denises lane (between fen lane & st mary lane) seen by me!!!

Also red throated diver yesterday at rainham marsh

Iceland gull,glaucous gull,med gulls and black redstart at rainham over the weekend!

2 pomarine skuas at east tilbury upto coalhouse fort

Marsh harrier & curlew sandpiper there as well

Had my first little owl of the year on berwick pond road.Ironically it was about 2 minutes after i was thinking to myself that the local birds i saw in the area last year must of been killed as i haven't seen them for months,then it popped up!!

Rob - have you ever seen a ring ouzel anywhere?

 

I was driving along Hacton last last night (about 7.30pm) and I was not i a position to stop, but what might have been a ring ouzel was on the wires, just past the rubbish tip turning.

 

I've checked the Birs of Essex book, and it is not all that common in Essex (or anywhere else for that matter).

 

The only other similar looking bird is the dipper, but that was not my impression, and I have never known a dipper to be away from fast flowing water, hence no dippers in Essex

i saw one last year on cup final day in the bridge house garden believe it or not.There have been reports around the rainham area so it is highly probable it was a ring ouzel

5 Hobbies on berwick pond road

2 Kestrels

30 plus swifts

1 little owl

A pleasant summers evening,hopefully the hobby numbers will pick up,last years maximum count in the field at any one time was 13 i believe

2 common buzzards around orsett today at 3pm viewed from parker farm road

2 little owls actually seen by alice down berwick pond road today at approx 5pm

i didn't see them straight away so turne round and there were the little darlings,sitting in a tree!!!

Spoonbill seen flying over southend pier going north today

along with 40 med gulls

Red kite seen around braxtead & 2 near colchester

Bittern on layer causeway)abberton

And i had 2 short eared owl at coopers beach caravan park,east mersea

Had a pair of blackcap and 4 parakeets in my garden today

Also 10 long tailed tit and a coal tit

Common Buzzard at hornchurch country park today

Red kite at stebbing near dunmow,been seen regularly last few weeks
