Woods 3-0 Cobham

Recommended Posts

A good win in the end against a young, but spirited Cobham side.

May have been different if the Hammers had taken one of three good 1st half chances but they lacked confidence in front of goal plus Tony Oval made 2 good saves.

Ran away with it, eventually, in the second half.

Sending off for visitors.

Mark Longley now 11 goals in the five games since the new management started! applause

Have to agree with you there CC.

If we had taken at least one of our good first half chances it could have been a different story and thought we were still well in it up to the sending off (idiot!!), then started to get slightly overran.

Thought the main diff was your front 2 and Longley is just playing class at the mo.

Think if you take me out the side our average age was about 20/21 and it showed!

Hey Kroons

Yeah he played RB on Sat. For a young lad (think he is still 17 and captains our youth team) he is one of the youngsters with great potential and IMO a good defender who is having to learn quickly at the mo due to the circumstances at Cobham, but is not found wanting.

Thought he did really well.
Mark Longley is on fire at the moment but it's not just his goals. Wait until he is 100% fit!!! shocked
When you think that Cobham under 18's beat Woking Academy on Thursday, then the future is good at the Leg O Mutton! applause

Yeah he did, esp as our RM is also a youth team player. Thought they played well as a pair and didn't get out muscled.

Mark is a good player though and caused us problems when we let him! Along with your other forward they form a v good partnership up top.

Yeah the youth team is looking good (yet again), it's just a shame so many have had to be thrown in at the deep end with what's happened. I think including our subs we had 5 current youth team players in the squad on sat and another 2-3 that have only stopped playing youth football in the past few seasons!!

WOODS 3-0 COBHAM

Woods made it an unbeaten run of five games by virtue of a 3-0 win over struggling Cobham at Wibbandune.

The visitors young squad are now left with a real relegation threat hanging over them although they will take some comfort from a spirited performance in which, if they had taken their first half chances, then the outcome may have been different.

That was because Woods, once again, were a little slow out of the traps and a more potent opposition forward line may threaten such lethargy in the future.

Gerald Mensah, The Hammers rangy forward was twice denied by Tony Oval and he really should have scored with the goal gaping but he froze at the opportunity.

Woods gradually settled into the game and there was a good penalty shout when Mark Longley appeared to be tripped but the, somewhat whistle happy referee forgot his lines this time.

A long free kick from Oval was subtly flicked on by Ramzi Bedj Bedj to Daniel Hughes but Nick McGregor blocked expertly with his right leg. Half time arrived and the feeling was that honours were pretty even and that any Woods goal would test the resilience of the visitors.

On 51 minutes, Bedj Bedj somehow contrived to miss what was, pretty much an open goal following a fine McGregor save but, from the resultant corner, Mark Longley attacked the near post to powerfully head home.

Any thoughts that Cobham would fold up were misinformed and the Woods defence were kept busy although clear cut chances were few and far between.

On 66 minutes, Ashley Williams was dismissed for a foul having already been booked for a verbal assault on the referee. The remaining ten men kept at it well but Woods forward play was beginning to take its toll on the overworked defence and midfield of The Hammers and this resulted in a fine second goal on 82 minutes.

Substitute, Ali Melloui, played the ball into Longley who, having quickly realised any shot would be blocked, cleverly played a reverse pass. A step-over by Daniel Hughes allowed Bedj Bedj to drive home emphatically from 12 yards.

On 87 minutes, Woods were awarded a penalty when another substitute, Michael Beard, expertly drew a late tackle and Longley made it 11 goals in the last 5 games with a cool spot kick.

For long periods, there was little between the sides, but Woods are playing with a lot of confidence right now and their stamina levels are pretty high. However, any future injuries may be a severe test of the small squad.

Thankfully, the discipline side of things is not an issue!

The match report is spot on IMO.

Thought that might have been you CC, but was concentrating on the game too much to strike up a conversation! Thought you may have said something whilst doing the laps!!
