Capital League at St Alban's

Asa's Aces beat a very lively St Alban's team tonight with virtually the last kick of the game.

Michael Brothers, who had been giving his utmost all throughout the game, got his just reward, when on picking up the ball just outside the Saints area he hit an unstoppable shot which beat the home keeper to claim the spoils for the Urchins.

To be fair the homesters had more of their share of possession and hit the bar once and had some near misses.

Our lads also hit the woodwork on more than one occasion but it was left to that man Brothers to settle what was a very keenly contested match.

So Asa's lads are now nine points in front of Enfield Town, who play tomorrow and the Capital League team are now next in action at Witham against Chelmsford on Wednesday.

From the St Albans Website, seems we did very well.

CAPITAL LEAGUE leaders AFC Hornchurch were made to wait until 27 seconds from time at Clarence Park on Monday before securing a 14th win in 15 outings with an excellent strike from 25 yards by Michael Brothers condemning St Albans City Reserves to a 1-0 defeat.

The visitors were good value for the three points with Brothers, who was also booked, having struck the crossbar earlier in the half. City midfielder Craig Mortimer also hit the woodwork before the interval but it was mostly a rearguard action by the Saints.

Excellent tackles by Jack Cartwright and Reiss Noel on Ross Wall and Brothers respectively helped keep the game goalless at half time while City keeper Danny Margott used his legs well to thwart Wall early in the second half.

City's best chance came six minutes from time when Hamza Twomey played the ball wide to Mortimer on the right and from his cross into the York Road goalmouth Simon Martin had a close ranger header well blocked by Hornchurch keeper Billy McMahon.
