Toyah Wilcox is a bit before my time. And she scares me.

Especially when she says:

'Over the hills and far away - Teletubbies, come out to play...'

Ok thats fair enough but why do you have it stored in your memory ?

My nephew used to be in to teletubbies now he is far more cool and into Thunderbirds which is fab (pardon the pun) because I used to watch them when they came out the first time.
And also Scooby doo which was and is just Tops

So now we have something in common to talk about.

all of which leads me on to why are childrens programmes these days so cr*p ?

Why not revive some of the great ones from yester-year ?

Bring back Fireball XL5, Mr Benn and Mary Mungo and Midge

Just the useless things that I have in my head !! It may prove useful for a quiz in the future - Bubs would understand !!

Agreed that Thunderbirds is more worth talking about, though. My influence has enabled my kids to enjoy it as well.

The 'old' Scooby Doo where are you ? shows were one of the best things to come out of Hanna Barbera - wish I had cable to enjoy 'Boomerang'.

I could go on for hours...

Thunderbirds and Fireball XL5 - excellent. I know I watched Supercar on my uncle's TV but I can't remember much about it.

Who remembers The Magic Boomerang? Circus Boy? Whirlibird? They were some of my favourites. And Flipper - but that has been repeated a lot I believe.

Tom Tom - what the hell was that all about? Remember the Grand Prix reconstructions the week after the race? Scalextric cars with half the track in a tunnel so they could change the race order lap by lap to recreate the real race!

The dubbed Swedish (no, not that sort) Robinson Crusoe - repeated until very recently.

I moved on to The Man (and Girl) From Uncle and I confess I enjoyed The Avengers.

Cartoons - classics like Yogi Bear and The Flintstones, but there was also Secret Squirrel, Atom Ant and Squiddley Diddly. Yes it was a talking squid.

I also loved the grown-ups (?) sitcoms and comedies - Hancock, Frankie Howard, Hugh and I, Harry Worth, early Morecambe and Wise.

TOTP - Samantha playing the records - and Ready Steady Go with Cathy McGowan. Juke Box Jury! And what about Simon Dee - what a t**t.

Ahhh, those were the days....

There is not a single children's television show to beat Tiswas. Who could forget Sppit the Dog, the Phantom Flan Flinger, Sally James (phew) and good old Lenny Henrty with his condensed milk sandwiches

I didn't mention Tiswas because I was (sort of) grown up at the time.

My fondlest mammory of Sally James is when a Royal Navy warship adopted her as official pun-up and sent her a tally - the band with te ship's name on that goes round a sailor's hat. The soppy tart thought it was a garter, and wore it on her thigh while wearing her schoolgirl outfit - hoicking the skirt up to proudly display it (the tally).

Well of course over the next couple of weeks she received sackfulls of tally bands from most of the fleet, and cheerfully added them all to her delightful thighs and flaunted them before the nation.

Top girl..
