I have already been put in my place by Uncle for saying that Boxing Day wasn't a religious holiday, but how many people regard it as such?
When you have no supporter base at all, as in the case of Haringey and Kentish Town, it makes no difference, but clubs with a sound supporter base definitely benefit from local derbies on attractive days.
I Think part of your post is a little bit sexist, assuming that ALL the blokes want to get out of the house. I suppose it depends on what your home life is like!! Also, it may be a way of some supporters escaping their dull home lives, but has anybody thought of the players themselves who would not be able to enjoy Christmas night or New Years eve, because they can't have a late night or a drink, because of driving to the ground and then playing 90 minutes of football. Fair enough if they were professional footballers being paid a fortune in wages, but for most of them these dates are well earned rests from work.

Sorry Hollie! Didn't want to offend anyone. Obviously not ALL the blokes. But the facts speak for themselves - Boxing Day produces much larger crowds in the leagues that play then. Even the Essex Senior League, with only 30 league games play on Boxing Day. The Sales also attract huge crowds, as people look to get out of the house!
And by the way, I spent 38 years of my life NOT living on my own, and I only went to football about 10 times on Boxing Day (mostly taking my visiting father-in-law and brother-in-law)!

Boxing Day isn't a celebration of St Stephens though, it just happens to fall on the same day as St Stephens day so it not a black and white issue.

It is a good point about the players at this level playing on Boxing Day though, we do in Division 2 and I know it can be a right pain when it comes to making a programme, especially when we have a home game the previous Saturday! However most fans look forward to it, and I know the club do. Last season our top attendance by a county mile was the New Years Day local derby vs Crawley Green and I'm sure it would be the same for other teams in the SSML should they play either on Boxing Day or New Years Day.

AWK - Yes but wouldn't it still have been had the game been played on a Tuesday night in February.

Yes, I did know thanks druff

It's not even a public holiday in the States. There are so many saints days around I'm sure you can find one for practically ever other day of the year.

I wouldn't have thought the attendance would have been anywhere near as high Rhodes. Last season when we played them on a Saturday we got an attendance of just 10, this time around the crowd was swelled by a lot of groundhoppers that turned up to watch the match, and they come mainly because the game was on New Years Day.

Indeed, today is St Peter's Day - hope you've stayed at home with the family Rhodes!

In a posting on the Haringey Borough Trials thread Rhodes stated that

"...our Forum and another's Forum members don't normally mix and are like chalk and cheese. ..."

For once I have to say that Rhodes is correct. Earlier this evening I posted a, surprisingly, on topic question about the SSML fixtures. This post received no response and instead has disappeared under the weight of sub-Carry On "witty banter."

The same question posted on the TK forum just over 20 minutes ago has already received 2 responses.

I appreciate that there is a marked difference between the two forums, but I had assumed that posting an SSML related question on an SSML forum might have elicited some kind of response.

Perhaps I'm just not welcome here which would be a shame as I have learnt a lot from the different forums on Fans Focus specifically because the forums are specialised and populated by people who actually work with the clubs in each league. Maybe it's just the silly season and things will pick up when the football starts again.
