Erm No I can't !!

Let me rephrase " in my humble opinion only Disco music of the sevenities is more acceptable to the ear than the current form of dance music which I am reliably informed is very good and much liked by the younger generation"

Hows that ? <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Personally, I'm a big fan of both eras. The early Steve Hogarth stuff is a bit too poppy for my liking though (Holidays In Eden is dire!) For a superb (albeit depressing) concept album try Brave. Otherwise you cannot go wrong with the most recent release, Anoraknophobia. This Strange Engine has a couple of excellent tracks including the title track and Afraid of Sunlight is also worth a listen. If you access the website, you will be able to buy all of these at just £9.99 a shot.

Brave is an essential album. Itis beautiful, harrowing, uplifting, everything you could want from an album and more.

Afraid of Sunlight takes some getting used to, but is worth the effort.

This Strange Engine is one of my favourite Marillion albums, although it also has what I consider to be their worst ever song on it....

Radiation could've been so much better. It is generally regarded as the worst album, but a lot of this is caused by what seems to be a rushed production job. If ever an album needed ot be remastered, this is it. A lot of the songs are great live, but don't quite seem to work on the album.

Marillion.com is a take it or leave it album for me. It has a few good moments, but seems to me to be full of left over ideas from other albums.

Anoraknophobia is the only album of theirs I don't own, although my name is on the cover! It has some great tracks on it, and shows that Marillion are willing to try different things. It does have their second worst ever song on it though....

So, what about Fish's Solo career?

Badger, what are your worst two Marillion songs then? I can't believe that they don't come from Holidays In Eden. I certainly can't think of a track of Anoraknophobia that I would consider to be their worst.

As for fish's solo career, I bought his first album (Vigil In A Wilderness Of Mirrors) and really enjoyed it. Haven't bought anything by him since. IS it worth looking at?

New Marillion album will apparently be called Marbles, and will go on pre-sale on 1st September.

Their worst songs, as far as I am concerned, are:

Hope for the Future - sounds like they'd been listening to one of Jon Anderson's solo albums, andbut got the wrong idea from it.

If My Heart were a Ball it would Roll Uphill - I've heard it on the album, heard it live at Shepherd's Bush Empire, and have one or two other live renditions of it - H can't sing it.

Fish's solo stuff? Well worth the effort on the whole, especially Fellini Days and Sunsets on Empire, although in my opinion, Suits is for completists only.

Peter Gabriel's Genesis is also great. There is a first class tribute band from Canada called the Musical Box. They re-enact the Selling England By the Pound Tour with instruments from that era, the correct costumes, lighting etc. I saw them last year and they were first class. Steve Hackett came on at the end and played alongside his impersonater. If anyone is interested, they are back in the UK this autumn and will be playing at the Royal Albert Hall. It is quite and experience.
