Another breakaway club?

Recommended Posts

Fans have rejected this week’s decision by club owners Chequer Properties for Evo-Stik League Premier Division Burscough to groundshare with Skelmersdale United and will now vote on whether to form a breakaway outfit.

The Greens’ supporters club – who raised nearly £60,000 to keep the side playing over the past twelve months – fear that without guarantee of a new ground being built, the famous non-league side could cease to exist.

A public meeting will be held next Tuesday night where the proposal for the new side will be outlined and votes cast on getting the wheels in motion.

Those present will also be polled on the transformation of the supporters club to a supporters trust.

Should the breakaway club be given the green light then those behind the plans have a boss poised to take the reins.

It is understood the concerned supporters will explain how the new set-up is to begin as a youth side for the 2011/12 season and play in the Lancashire Floodlit League.

Applications have to be submitted to the Football Association by April if sides wish to be considered for the following season, so it remains unlikely any new side would be granted access into the Vodkat North West Counties League First Division, for example, though exceptions are not out of the question.
