Guernsey to forfeit 3 Pts ?

Recommended Posts

I do apologise if this has been disscussed already but friends from Guernsey told me this afternoon that Guernsey had played a suspended Keiron Mahon and have know been docked 3 points for this lapse of communication with the GFA.

Will this change anything come the end of the season ?

Yes of course it will!!!!Your be crowned Champions with 3 less points.Keiron Mahon will be birched in St. Peters Port. And all the Management team will be sacked, for not noticing the error.

Smudge me ole chap i too like you LOVE GUERNSEY but as i keep saying "friends from Guernsey" im not a GFC Lion, but yes sack them all, and make them play all thier home games in Jersey !!!

If you loved guernsey so much you would know its St. Peter Port and not St. Peters Port!

Not sure where the blame lies, GFC knew nothing of the suspension, it's not up to the GFA to tell anyone as its all in the rules, cough, cough! Why his club failed to say anything to the player or GFC is unknown. A farce that could have been avoided if once the squad details were in the local rag someone had let someone know. Sadly their petty jealously got the better of them. I can see many guernsey football diehards thoroughly enjoying seeing GFC suffer. Shows a few people up in their true colours.

What a stupid post, you will be told off for it for sure. All F.A.s are governing bodies,it is not their remit to inform Clubs,it is for Clubs to check. They have no Favourites they earn money out of Clubs,Players errors. That is why they are IMPARTIAL.Maybe best if you delete your post pronto.

Where did I say the GFA were to blame?

Guys, lets not go overboard here. At the end of the day, this was a mixture of breakdown in communications, a little naiveity and inexperience. The gfc officials acted honestly and up front as soon as they were aware so there is nothing macabre going on here. Nobody died because of today, and nobody is going to haul anyone over the coals over it. Sure, everyone involved will have learnt something today and if that helps us to grow in the future then it's a small price to pay. The best thing to do is concentrate on the rest of the league and cup games ahead and behave in the manner which we are proud to be renowned for. End of speech.

Out of interest it says in the B.B.C. Report that Mahon's ban does not affect Representative Games and he has been selected to represent Guernsey in the Muratti Semi against Alderney.Have Northerners or will Northerners have played 2 games by then.

Not sure, but what's your angle, if it does not affect representative games is that not immaterial?

Te ban only applies to 'Saturday League' matches, I.e. Priaulx and CCL, does to affect county matches as that is what the muratti is as far as the FA are concerned.

Smudgey, talk about going over board !

Rumour has it and as Nice Guy has intamated the player indeed did not know or was told he was suspended ! now that it only rumour as i say, but what has come out of this is that the GFA and the GFC need to put their difference's to one side as we are meant to be all on the same side.

Jersey rugby has a semilar set up as but the two bodies that are JRFC and JRC get along perfectly fine and want each other to succeed.

The problem is, is it up to the GFA (or any County Association) to tell all clubs that a player has signed for that he is going to be banned? The GFA now have to work to their governing body (the FA) rules, gone are the days that they can do what they like.

Surely someone knew what was going to happen after they saw Mahon was in the squad? Someone should have had a quite word on this occasion and said in future you need to be more careful.

Statement from GFC (taken from their Facebook page)

GFC PRESS RELEASE 6TH MARCH 2012 Guernsey Football Club wishes to make clear the circumstances which led to a suspended player being fielded in the Combined Counties Football League Division 1 match versus C B Hounslow Utd on Saturday 3rd March 2012. The club became aware of the suspension on Sunday 4th March when GFC Football Secretary Mark Le Tissier was undertaking a routine check of the club’s disciplinary records against those on the FA’s disciplinary website and observed that Kieran Mahon was suspended from 2nd March 2012. This suspension related to Kieran Mahon being sent off having received 2 yellow cards in a Priaulx League fixture for Northerners on 10th February 2012 for which he would receive a 2 match suspension; ordinarily this offence attracts a 1 match ban, however as this was the player’s second offence of this nature this season, he received a 2 match ban. To clarify, the ban is from both Northerners and Guernsey FC games and is only regarded as served once he has missed two Northerners’ first team games. Guernsey FC informed the Combined Counties Football League Secretary, Alan Constable, on Monday 4th March of the circumstances and requested that the league’s Management Committee deal with the matter at its monthly meeting that same evening. Guernsey FC accepted that it is responsible for ensuring it does not play suspended players and will abide by the sanctions set out in the League Rules. Mr Constable was grateful and commended the club for advising the League of the error. Ultimately, whilst it is the club’s responsibility not to play a suspended player, it is unlikely that this would have occurred if the Guernsey Football Association had processed the standard disciplinary paperwork in a timely fashion and, having not received such paperwork from the Guernsey FA, Northerners had asked the Guernsey FA within 10 days of the game, why it had not received notification of the suspension, as the FA’s Discipline Handbook states clubs must do. Guernsey FC would normally expect to receive a list of suspended players from the Guernsey FA on a weekly basis together with any paperwork for cautions or sending offs, as has been the case earlier this season. Unfortunately, Guernsey FC understands that the Guernsey FA did not process any disciplinary matters between 10th February and 2nd March, therefore the suspension was not brought to the club’s attention in this manner, the list of suspensions was received by Guernsey FC by post on Monday 5th March. Similarly, we understand that the relevant disciplinary paperwork in this case was handed to Northerners on Monday 5th March, some three days after the commencement of the suspension and some two days after Guernsey FC’s game against CB Hounslow United. GFC Football Secretary Mark Le Tissier said, “Guernsey FC is extremely disappointed that given that the Guernsey FA had not processed any disciplinary cases for 3 weeks, it did not contact either Northerners AC or Guernsey FC to advise them of the suspension - even though the County Association is not obliged to do so, the club feels this would have been the level of service we should expect from our County FA in these circumstances. Le Tissier continued, “It is vitally important that we all get behind the team for the remainder of the season with renewed enthusiasm the team will need your support to ensure that Guernsey F C is successful in its quest to win the Combined Counties League Division 1 and gain promotion in its inaugural season.” Club Chairman Steve Dewsnip added, “Guernsey FC apologises to all its players, coaches, sponsors, supporters and volunteers for the situation in which it now finds itself. Although most of the circumstances leading up to where we now find ourselves were beyond our club’s control, we nevertheless take responsibility for the inevitable and standard three points’ deduction and £100 fine as the League’s rules in this regard are what we must abide by.” He went on, “It is extremely disappointing that football on this island has shot itself in the foot in this way and once again this situation could have been avoided by interested parties within Guernsey football choosing to communicate and work together which, alas, has once again not happened. Given the big following that the Green Lions have created in the UK and further afield, this embarrassment for the club and the island regrettably is spread far beyond our shores.” The club can also confirm that it has been drawn at home in the Semi-Finals of the CCL Premier Challenge Cup against the winners of the Guildford City v Badshot Lea quarter final tie. The date of the semi final match, which could potentially see the visit of the current CCL Premier League leaders Guildford City to Footes Lane, is yet to be confirmed. ENDS

Question for E&E Ed - under the circumstances explained above do you believe that CB Hounslow should be awarded the 3 points from this game?

It took Neil Warnock months of moaning and shouting to NOT gain anything from an ineligible player playing for West Ham when Sheffield United went down!

---

I don't think that's really how it works, they're not changing the outcome of the match but deducting points. It's unfortunate for Hounslow that after a terrific performance where they are narrowly beaten to find that Guernsey had a player playing that shouldn't have been on the pitch but I don't believe the rules really counter for that.

A learning curve for Mark le Tissier,if the ban was on the G.F.A.Site on the Sunday 4th March,it must surely have been on there on the 3rd of March.Maybe though G.F.A. work over the weekends. It is not the Guernsey F.A.s responsibility to contact Clubs personally, only by Letter. When was the letter posted,if it was received on the 5th of March. The Guernsey F.A.should take FULL RESPONSIBILITY,for their negligence in not processing the matter, earlier than the commencement of the ban. They should pay the C.C.L.League fine,as Guernsey acted in good faith throughout. However C.B.Hounslow should be awarded the 3 points,as an advantage has been gained by Guernsey F.C.by playing an ineledgible player.Would seriously ask all Clubs to put forward a motion at next years A.G.M.that if a ineledgble player is fielded at any time during a game, that irrespective of the result, the 3 points are awarded to the non offending team.18 points have gone missing this year alone, this can not go on.

It's not a rule that Clubs can change Smudge - it's FA standard rules applicable to all Leagues up & down the country
