Southend reporting on their site an interest in Slavi Spasov.

Because of his age it'll cost them 5k.

Interesting that they're saying he's a big physical lump up front which is what they need.

Is that on their fans forum site?

I think the process is that there is either a mutually agreed fee between the clubs or if they can’t agree it goes to an FA arbitration panel to decide the fee.

Around £5k would probably not be unusual for an average Step 2 player, but for a player that has a strike rate of a goal every 214 minutes in the last season & who is wanted by a club that missed promotion to the Football League by a fine margin, I would expect the fee to be a fair bit higher.

And from Scott’s recent post regarding David Ogbonna I would say a precedent of a fee greater than £5k has probably been established.

It's one of their X sites.

I stand to be corrected but if Slavi is out of contract, which I think he is, the only compensation we're due is 5k because of his age.

Unless we’re told how much he was earning it’s impossible! But I’d hope it was alot more than £5k or we’ve been robbed.

If the club only got £5k for him it would have meant he would have been paid £120 a week for the last two years….. £120 per week for two years = £12k, £12k less £5k = £7k, & £7k over 2years is £70 per week.

So if you think he was on £120 a week with us then we got £5k for him…. if you think he was earning more than that, then for every £10 per week higher you think he was paid we got £1k above the £5k.

If the two clubs can’t agree a compensation fee as David was out of contract but under 24 (because of his age it meant that we were entitled to something) then it would go to a tribunal where we would receive anywhere between £1500-2500. Fortunately we negotiated more than that as there were a few clubs involved.

If we got £5k for Slavi then yet again,  that would be more than what we would receive at a tribunal, but I’m sure that if he ever goes we will get more than £5k as we would be able to agree something with a club.

Doesn't the fee we got for David and what we might get for Slavi depend on whether they were/are still on a contract?

No contract and it will be a fee of 5k just for their ages or am I missing something?
