YA 2003's Stortford Review

YELLOW

Recommended Posts

A thoroughly excellent performance as Canvey got revenge for the 2-0 defeat earlier this season and that terrible 4-0 thrashing last season.

After being the better side in the opening 35 minutes, Canvey came close with efforts from J.K and Neil Midgley but needed a Lee Boylan penalty after Jeff Minton was tripped to take the lead.

With Canvey ahead the team started to play their natural game and a storming run from midfield by J.K saw him play an exquisite ball to Boylan who slided home to leave the Yellow Army in raptures.

It was more of the same in the second half. After Desborough had saved Ty Gooden's free kick from the resulting corner, Dave Theobald headed on to leave Boylan with a simple tap in for his hattrick.

It got better minutes later when Chenery buried a loose ball from a corner for his first league goal of the season.

Stortford brought it back to 4-1 with Aaron Barnett scoring with a far post header (a goal not too dissimilar from the one he scored against us at Woodside Park at the start of the season.)

Canvey continued the pressure and sub Ollie Berquez broke clear, saw his shot saved by the keeper but fellow sub Junior Mcdougald bundled the rebound home to complete the scoring with ten minutes to go.

Final Score Canvey 5 1 Stortford

Good atmosphere with plenty of singing tonight. Some great performances tonight obviously from Lee Boylan but some mesmerising performances from Jeff Minton and J.K and Ty Gooden is really starting to look the part.

Overall great display and a brilliant start to the Christmas period.

Some guy called Rio. Never heard of him myself

He probably posted a comment on the FA website which the officials objected to.

Still, at least his ban is for 8 months. Ian and Matt have lifetime bans (at least, there is no timescale attached to them). The other difference is Rio knows the reason for his ban. To this day Ian has never been told why he is banned, apart from the theory that Ray Cross thought he was talking to Matt that day in the Maidenhead bar.

Some may think that Rio is on the end of some rough justice from the FA, but at least the reasoning and length of sentence are transparent, rather than the shady goings on in the board room at Park Lane.

BTW Nice write-up YA 2003. 'slided', that's a new one on me, did you get that one from Matt?

Well you know what us young'uns are like with our use of language! Yep should have been 'slid the ball home'. Bad use of English there. I'll change it straight away!

I see the Official Website has given us a 140 word match report.

GOSH! GOLLY!

Have they started taking the criticism seriously? Being called a 'crap' website, not only by our own fans but now by other clubs' discussion boards as well, has perhaps stirred a few consciences at Park Lane.

Thing is, I always found it easy to wax eloquent whenever we won a game 5-1; but what will the Official Match Reporter do when we lose a game by a similar scoreline? Or when we do one of our Burgess Hill, Lowestoft, Slough, Yeading (Bryco Cup) performances?

When the club decided to set up its own website I had no problems; it's a free world. But I don't think they fully understood the number of (unpaid) hours that it would take every week to make the site work.

Rather than Matt's opinions bringing the club into disrepute I think the new site does a much better job.
