Burgess Hill v Enfield Town

littlehampton

Recommended Posts

Town gave a spirited performance against a very good Dulwich side, earlier in the week, but still came away empty-handed, after suffering another defeat at Champion Hill, in a very close, highly competitive contest.

Today, Town will be very keen to kick-start their season, when they travel to West Sussex, in search of three points and their first win of the season. After a draw and a defeat in our opening two League fixtures, everyone will be hoping it is third time lucky this afternoon.

Last season, against todays opponents, we lost there 1-0 in a match we were expected to win. We need to puts the records straight this afternoon. Expect another hard game down this way, but this time I expect (hope) Town to get something from this match - hopefully, all three points, with a confidence boosting victory.

Good luck everyone.

HT Burgess Hill 0-0 Enfield Town

So no goals to report in the first half and chances few and far between. A bad clash of heads shortly before the interval resulted in Ricky Gabriel having to leave the field and be replaced by Samir Bihmoutine.

Final Score:    Burgess Hill  1-0  Enfield Town

Disappointing indeed to concede a goal and lose the match in the last few minutes. Not what we all hoped for or expected. I can't comment on our performance, as I am sure others will, but this is the same result as last season, and it appears we are finding goals very difficult to come by at the moment. Does anyone have any thoughts as to why?

No wins, two defeats and a draw, from our first three matches. We lost away to Dulwich, one of our harder games on paper, but Leiston went to Champions Hill today and beat them 2-4. What do we need to tweak to put things right? One point from nine, smacks of another catch-up season ahead, unless we improve soon. How do YOU see it guys?

Blustery conditions.....yes, so why play the game kicking the ball high all the time.

Grass was cut very short and from the side the pitch looked fairly good.

Why o why not play the ball on the floor ????

Couple of chances were unlucky, but, if you don't score goals you don't win games.

First half their keeper did not have to make a save and second half I can only recall two saves as the ball "hit" him.

Goals win games.

Couple of strange decisions ( in my opinion ) at 0 - 0 with 15 to go , we take off a forward and replace with a midfield player ????

We can't all be Managers, but Brad has his work cut out.

Roll on Tuesday.

Since I am unable to get out to see the games I can only go by what I read and hear.

It is, however, obvious that the team need forwards of the calibre of at least that of those we have lost, only even retain our last years position. To do so the team needs more investment.

Before you all say that we can't afford it or that our budget cant be raised, tell

me where the funds came from to obtain a 99 years lease on the ground. (The value

of which was worth less to the club the following day, it being a wasting asset)

My point being, that the " Board " were quite understandable willing to raise

finance for this undertaking, by loan or other means but do not seem to appreciate

that if the clubs team performances are allowed to decline they could be in danger of being unable to raise sufficient to pay the ground rent

To obtain the players we need they may soon have to take a chance and put their hands in in the clubs pockets.

Just an added thought what has happened to Daniel Wynter. Only 18 months ago Brad was raving about him as one for the future. Well the future is now.

Also have you see Haringey Borough score to day? Someone there knows where the goals is. Perhaps another Bobby looking for a leg up!!!! After all our new strikers seem to be on strike.

I agree with previous posts after the Dulwich game that it's too early to panic, and I'm certainly not calling for anybody's head, but I am VERY disappointed with our 3 performances so far. Yes conditions were difficult today and yes we were unlucky at times but 1 point from 3 matches leaves us playing catch up, already 8 points behind 3 teams.

I've not seen many of the positives that others referred to after the first 2 games and was surprised with Brad's post Dulwich interview when he suggested we have a stronger squad than last year. For me we're lacking pace both at the centre of defence and up front and strength in midfield. Curtis is clearly a good signing but is not the quickest so being paired with either Stanley or Kirby doesn't look to be working to me. Similarly, Kelvin looks a strong player but is very similar to Harry and doesn't look like getting a hatfull of goals.

Not sure why Nathan Livings has been dropped to the bench? We're giving the ball away too much from the back and in midfield....Was encouraged to see Imedd there today, albeit not training as I think he's a really creative player and a good prospect and feared he might have left - has he been injured?

Important that we turn it around sooner rather than later but I can't see where the goals are going to come from at the moment. Also wondering what has happened to Dernell - not sure he's the answer at this level but we're not exactly blessed with goals in the squad. Nigel Neita had some encouraging moments today but never looked like scoring.

Don't think we've even played a decent side yet either - thought even Dulwich were below par, although clearly deserved the win against us. Not surprised to see they lost at home to Leiston today though.

We've lost 3 key players and the new ones will and still need time to gel.

We are a limited resourced club that doesn't throw all its money at player expenses but is mindful and responsible of paying its way and overheads off the pitch too.

The comment of wasting money on a 99 year lease is a typical of a supporter not having a business mind or FA knowledge on requirements to be stable and progressive.

The biggest disappointment for me is Vilcu and Devyne leaving to struggling conference south clubs rather than build on our near play off qualifications of the past seasons. They obviously thought it'd be a walk in the park for them but I think they've been conned of higher standard football but for a poorer team.

I agree the replacements aren't currently filling the vacancies as well, as yet but still early days and we'd scored less goals last season with Corey Bobby and Vilcu in the team after 3 games,

4 Wem Fin.

Not sure where you are coming from.

Are you suggesting the Board should have spent money on players and continued to rent a ground or play at Brimsdown ?

The Club needs to move on in many directions.

Obviously now we need to score goals to win games, but if you are suggesting the all cash should be "playing budget" we will make no progress as a Club.

I am sorry that EU and OT were unable to read and understand my comments.

What I was trying to say was far from what they infer. What I wrote was

simply the suggestion that as the club had achieved it's goal in securing the

ground they should now consider how they can best safeguard their interest.

One of these could be to try and ensure that the playing staff do not fall below

the standard that even this league requires

However, in second paragraph EU decided to make it personal and quite abusive

which I thought was not the object of this forum. But in his assumptions he does

not know how wrong he is!!!

Before retirement I was a practitioner in a major international accountancy

firm , specialising in both UK and offshore tax law. On occasions I

became involved in several football clubs being put into administration,

Portsmouth being one. From his remarks he seems to know a lot about FA procedures etc and therefore would know about the tax case that followed, hence my connection.

I never intended my submissions to this forum to become personal and

for this I apologise to all other subscribers. Consequently, I will withdraw

from making any comments in the future.

Don't stop posting 4wembleyfinals, particularly with this being your only connection with the club at the moment. Your comments are as valid as anybody else's and, as a supporters run organisation, our very fabric is as an inclusive club.

Sometimes what's put in print can be taken not in the way it was intended.....

Couldn't agree more Anfield Towner, and I really do hope  4wembleyfinals that you will seriously reconsider, and keep expressing your own thoughts and points of view on this fans forum. It is, as we know, all to easy for people to misconstrue what others are saying, and take their comments out of context. Everyone is entitled to express an opinion, but it doesn't necessarily mean that they are right. Sometimes we beg to differ, and that happens in all walks of life.

It is a great shame that you are unable to get to matches at present 4wembleyfinals, to enjoy the atmosphere and add your support. I can fully understand your frustration, as I live 100 miles away from Enfield, and can't get to as many games as I would like. However, I can assure you that we, as a Club, are fortunate to have a lot of  good, very capable people, who work extremely hard, in an unpaid capacity, doing everything possible to move us forward, and build for future success. EU and OT are both good guys, who both put a lot of time and effort in for the Club. I am sure their comments were not intended to be dismissive or personal.

I'm not too proud to apologise if I misread your comments. So I do apologise.

As everyone knows we are as strong as our membership and fan base and are run in a structure without the backing of a money man.

I think our players are good enough and to the standards of the RPL minus a natural out and out goal scorer.

I'm not panicking after 3 games and I know Brad is meticulous on who he trusts when signing his standards are set high.

Thanks Little H and AT for your comments and to EU for his apology.

Unfortunately, I  am becoming a bit touching with nothing to do. So EU I reciprocate your apology and feel

that it is best if I leave my comments until  I am able to attend matches and can review more constructively.

Not first time I have stirred it up. I was criticised heavily in the 1990 for not accepting an answer to a question I put to Joan Ryan MP, at a meeting at the Enfield Civic Centre. This related as to whether she felt that the transaction that occurred between EBC and the then Chairman of Enfield FC should have been referred to Audit Commission. Her answer at the time I thought was very dismissive and aversive . But that was yester year.

4 Wem Fin,

Just read the above.

If you refer back to my post it started with " not sure where you are coming from" was was in fact more of a question than a critical comment.

Everyone on here is entitled to an opinion and should continue to post.

We all want what is best for OUR Club.
