Rushden & Higham Utd 0 AFC Rushden & Diamonds 5

Hi. New on here so please be gentle with me?

Chris Ruff Memorial Cup

The pitch at Hayden Road looked excellent, in fact better than I've ever seen it in the 40 plus years since my first visit. I guess that's helped by a couple of seasons of really light usage.

The game itself was every bit as one sided as the scoreline suggests, with a youngish Diamonds side knocking the ball about nicely and R & H chasing gamely on what was a fairly warm afternoon. The standout performance coming from Diamonds teenager Will Jones who scored his second hat-trick of the pre season, one to watch perhaps. The gap between steps 3 and 6 is, I think too huge to read anything into either sides prospects for the coming season.

I follow most of the Northamptonshire non-league clubs, hence my interest in the SSM league now that the six clubs have been transfered. To be honest they were all probably among the weaker sides in the UCL 1 and I doubt they will find life any easier in their new surroundings. Hope I'm proved wrong on that.

London Colney XI v London Colney Legends (Mickey Wright Memorial in aid of Rennie Grove Hospice)

A report on this one from last night at Cotlandswick, the game was also previewed on Ollie Bayliss's BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show last Sunday:

Where do i start... Well firstly what a great day yesterday was. A pat on the back for all who organised such a memorable tribute to a true "club legend" Well done to all the players involved with setting this up. Thanks also to everyone at the Football club for making the day go so well. The volunteers who got it all ready, Kim Grainger and her team who worked flat out behind the bar, Paul Jeggo, Terry Edwards, Trevor Andrews.. the list goes on. Thanks to all the current players that turned up and all of your friends, relatives, sons, daughters, grandchildren, and all of the local residents from London Colney that all came along and helped to raise so much money for the charity. Apologies i don't know on a personal level all of the people who attended and got this set up. But thank you from us all at London Colney Football Club for writing yourselves into another fantastic page in our clubs rich and amazing history. Apologies the photos i took aren't the best but i hope you will tag yourselves and anyone else and share them as far and as wide as you like. One of the most satisfying about the whole day was the amount of reunions that took place, the friendships rekindled, the hugs after 30 years apart was amazing to witness.
It would be amazing to have you support the new crop of Blueboys as loyally as you have the old. Thanks again to all who turned up, and also those who couldn't make it on the day. Please come along whenever you can to support your team Thanks again LCFC
Mick Wright was lucky to be surrounded by such a huge Blue family. Each and everyone of you did him proud...

Bedford 0 Eynesbury Rovers 7

A groundhopper from another Forum was at McMullen Park yesterday:

3pm - Friendly
Bedford FC 0-7 Eynesbury Rovers

Admission - £4
Attendance - 49 (h/c)
Venue: McMullen Park - next door to The Eyrie is the slightly more rough and ready home of Bedford FC. Had to purchase a ticket from the portacabin clubhouse, then show the paper stub to a guy in a ticket booth on the ground entrance. Staff again were very friendly and welcoming - I also had some social media contact with both Bedford clubs and they were quick to respond and helpful with queries. The ground borders the A421 so has the roaring traffic noise. Fully enclosed pitch, all 4 sides accessible. Furniture is all on one touchline with a unique small sheltered stand, half is seated, the other half benched. Next to that was a cut open portacabin with wooden benches in. An interesting ‘clock’ on the side of it showing when the next bus to the airport leaves - unsure where they got this cabin from.
Game - As much one sided as the score line suggests. Only one league difference between the two but the quality gap was huge. The visitors were 5 up by half time, I don’t recall a shot for Bedford, although they had 2 corners at the very end. I was surprised at the lack of hoppers around with an easy double on offer.

From what I understand there were some unsavoury incidents at Manor Fields last night particularly at the end of the proceedings when a nasty brawl took place resulting in a Milton Keynes Irish player suffering a facial injury:
