Arlesey Town 2 Hendon 5

A report on this one, I gather it was £8 to get in which seemed rather pricey for a friendly:

Arlesey Town (1) 2
Hendon (2) 5
Very nice ground for the level they're at, thought charging £1.70 for a bottle of water on the hottest day of the year was a little bit naughty but other than that was impressed. Barmaid was lovely as well. Hell of a walk from the station, so recommend a cab (I got a bus back but they are only one an hour)
As for the football, Hendon took an early lead and could have been more than 2-0 ahead with a couple chalked off for offside, before Arlesey scored the goal of the game, a 35 yarder that the Hendon keeper could only admire as it flew past him.
Both sides rang the changes at HT, Hendon again coming out in a different colour strip 2nd half as they have in their previous other two friendlies so far. Two quickfire goals looked to have put the game to bed, a tap in and a penalty making it 4-1, before the hosts were given a penalty of their own, a nice Panenka from the #11, who by my reckoning was their best player on the day. Hendon added one more goal but in truth the last half an hour was very poor from both sides, lots of errant passing and a bit scrappy.

Northampton Sileby Rangers 1 Cogenhoe United 3

A groundhopper from another Forum was at this one yesterday:

Northampton Sileby Rangers 1 - 3 Cogenhoe United (HT 0 - 1)
Spartan South Midlands 1 (Step 6) v United Co Premier South (Step 5)
Fernie Fields, Northampton, NN3 7BD

Admission £4 / 2
Cheeseburger £2.50
Cold cans from the bar £1.20
Attendance est. HC 56

I chose this match as it was a 1pm KO, and after running errands in MK at lunch time I didn't want to be kicking my heels until 3pm. On following my satnav I entered the road clearly signposted to the Fernie Field Sports Community Facility, which was also clearly signed saying NO football traffic on match days. With no signs saying where to go for parking, I did manage to park up, and it was only after the game I found the official entrance was off the A5076. I managed to enter the ground from behind the players changing rooms, and I walked around to the main stand to find where to pay my admission. No one challenged me along the way.

The grass was mown to the mm, it looked more like an outdoor bowling green than a football field. Surrounded by very neatly sheared hedges of conifer. The groundsman obviously works hard here. Adjacent to the ground is a bowling green, and behind one touchline is an area of grass which was also well cared for but not big enough to be marked out as a pitch. The main Grandstand runs along the opposite touchline, with covered standings running either side of the stand. The clubhouse and bar are behind the goal, and there are well signposted toilets and a tea bar serving hatch. There is also a clearly signed Medical room.

The game itself saw the visitors showing their higher level of playing, scoring the only goal in the first half. SR managed to equalise following a quickly taken free kick before Cogenhoe's defence could get into place. The visitors didn't make the same mistake again and pushed forward, scoring 2 more goals in the final 15 minutes. It was a hot day and drinks breaks were taken in both halves.

Broxbourne Badgers 1 Letchworth Garden City Eagles 5

A groundhopper from another Forum was at this one yesterday:

Letchworth GC Eagles 5 Broxbourne Badgers 1
PSF
Pixmore

Admission: £5
Programme: Nil
Attendance: 30 h/c

Had my eye on a game here earlier in the week, under a 2 hour drive and various re-visits close by if an issue. Opponents were late replacements because of Covid and were from the Herts County League.

Letchworth are about to start their first season at Step 6 - the ground is not far from the County Ground, behind the sports centre and next to the Town Rugby Ground.

Small car park, large modern clubhouse, open for toilets' and sitting out of the sun but bar/refreshment hatch shut. The pitch has a few slopes! Pitch fully railed and a small 70 seater stand on clubhouse/car park side, A second pitch partly railed is on the far side with shared dug outs with main pitch.

Plenty of people around as it seemed to be signing up day for the younger teams run by the club, the Eagles had started just as a youth side, with Jack Wilshere starting at the club.

Not a bad game, even in the heat of the day, Eagles like to pass the ball round and should do well in their first season at this level. Three up at half time and a slight surprise when the visitors scored first in the second half. Eagles added a further two goals, one from the spot. The Badgers looked quite a good team and certainly gave a good account of themselves against a team higher up the pyramid.

This is rather odd isn't it, Beaconsfield Town unceremonioulsy 'baled' on Risborough Rangers giving the Club little or no time to find a replacement friendly for tomorrow evening, now they are suddenly playing Flackwell Heath.

Karen - Thanks for pointing that out, I don't know what made me think Northampton ON Chenecks had joined the SSML, it must be really difficult for you with so many new Club's to deal with.
