Its Liam Daish !!

If true it would appear that the Board have opted for the, shall we say, 'affordable' option.( No pun intended ). I wonder if he is a full or part time appointment? Interestingly he is the only person who had actually admitted applying for the post. kmj.

Then that just proves how committed the board are about the future of GNFC...(not very). In order to develop the club they needed to invest heavily to obtain experience and knowledge, not someone who 'might' do a good job and 'might' stick it out long term, or 'might' know what he is talking about...!! We need a solid Manager with propects, not someone who is trying to build a CV in managerial experience.. and using us as a stepping stone..!!

That's probably why they appointed Liam Daish rather than Razor Ruddock, Jan Molby, Terry Fenwick or some of the other names that were banded around.

I'm not overwhelmed by the appointment, but as Slarti said, we can harp on all we like about the likes of Ruddock et al, but they know jack sh!t about management.

Daish actually has more of a track record (albeit not a startling one) than Pennock, played at a higher level and has more contacts, but if we'd appointed Pennock a lot of people would have been quite happy. Maybe it does say something about our ambition, but possibly also about our financial situation, but let's not dismiss Daish - there's a lot of reward to be had in young, hungry managers... providing, of course, they are the right ones.

Don't be so quick to condemn the guy, we got Glenn Cockerill by a similar method, we were relegation fodder and he was seen as the cheap option because he was already on the payroll.

He saved us from relegation, he brought in players in his 1st year that consolidated the squad and this season we are challenging for a play-off place.

Experience is not the be all and end all, if he has the right man management skills he may well prove to be a step forward.

As long as the improvements kick in after March 15th though.

why will this forum not let me use my name 'skippy' according to the stupid error message that name contains characters that are not alphanumeric!

Are you in shock at the appt then H?...

Yeah I think I am. Can't make my mind up whether it's a good appiontment or not. On the one hand he has plaeyd for Coventry under Strachan and should have a good few contacts but on the other he doesn't really have good management credentials or experiance.

However he is the manager of our club so we should ge behind him. If you slag him off and have a go at him you'll look far more silly if it all comes off an goes well then those who don'tslag him off and then goes pearshaped.

Exactly Harry - no-one knows whether it's a good appointment or not, because we haven't played any games under Liam yet. Some people on this forum have just been too quick to pre-judge.
