The National...

Recommended Posts

Every year I and a few mates go up to the big smoke for general consumption of beer and food. This is only interrupted to make a small wager on the National. I seem to have an uncanny ability to pick the horse that is destine to be dog food or glue in the very near future, so does anyone have a hot tip for me. If not it’s the pin in the paper again!

P.S. I never pick the favourite, where’s the fun in that! May be that’s where I am going wrong!

P.P.S I know, what silly twonk put the National on the same day as GNFC home game! I’ll miss the Morecombe game now! Only my second home game missed though this season so I’ve not done to badly.

The race is going to be delayed by 25 minutes so that some bloke called Charlie can marry one of the runners

25 minutes! I'll be pie eyed by the start!

Strong Resolve backed 7 weeks ago @ 40/1, now down to 16/1.

With that in mind, you watch it fall at the first.....

What made you back this horse anti-post 7 weeks ago? be interested to know.

If that's the case then wait till the day of the race and lay the horse when and if the odds come in further – providing you haven’t layed it off already.

I’ve never bet anti-post on the national before for obvious reasons - good luck.

Many years ago I worked as a 'board-marker', for Mecca Bookmakers, that's before they had wall to wall TV screens. I got to know a few professional gamblers, and they all said the same thing. Only mugs and old ladies bet on the Grand National. The reason being, the length of the course and the amount of jumps mean that anything, from the favourite to a glue factory nag, can win it.

Rather bizarrely, I signed up to betfair this morning for exactly that reason.....

.....something tells me I'm going to profit, win or lose.
