Is the Chairman of Leyton..............

....that would be the one who was awarded damages of £5000, which he promptly donated to Gt Ormond Street Hospital. Reed and Anr were also required to pay costs estimated to be of the order of £150,000, as I recall. That one?

Right.

Interesting court case that. It was libel or slander or one or both. It started with a phone call and then letters were written. A 5 day trial as I recall. 5 days. Strewth! Mind you, the defendant was to call 7 witnesses. You wouldn't have thought that 7 people could have witnessed a phone call, would you? Some of the biggest names in [Non League] football, if I remember rightly.

Some chap from Enfield came on here stating that the case would have "far-reaching consequences for all Non League Secretaries" but then he clammed up completely. There seemed to be efforts made to close all debate. That was never going to be effective, of course. I'm not sure whether it has. Had far-reaching consequences for all Non League Secretaries, that is. One of life's mysteries.

I don't know who was advising the defendant.

There was also reference on the thread to a match the season before between Leyton and Enfield at Leyton's ground. Some trouble when a bunch of the visitors ignored warning signs that an area of terracing was closed due to building works. Some of the biggest names in [Non League] football were involved there, too. It's a good job the entire crowd wasn't called as witnesses. The trial would still be going on today.

Some people seem to attract publicity, it seems.

Just to point out it was Enfield Town and not Enfield that Cos took to court

Also if the great Cos has taken the great Leyton from ESL to Conf Play-offs, how is it they have nicked all the history from the Leyton/Leyton Wingate/Waltham Forest franchise in the Isthmian League and Amateur Cup

not quite, believe he did not win the lottery, but is a self made millionaire a few times over.

Has taken Leyton from Intermediate football to a play-off for a place in the conference south. Hasn't made many friends along the way because of his out spoken ways, but if you look at it the other way at least people know where they stand with him. There are plenty of other cowboys running football clubs that have kept their faithful supporters in the dark.

Also the man has showed loyalty to the players that have taken them there. Has not thrown money at big name players, but has kept the bulk of his Ryman 2 and ESL promotion sides.

You can say that again, Anonymous. And that's putting it kindly. Dear-Oh-Dear. I could tell you some stories. Has he ever obtained a grant for ground improvements at Leyton?

No trouble at the Eastleigh/Leyton game was there?

AFF,why open up old wounds,if you can't even get the facts right.Leyton didn't close the terrecing down for 'building work'.I don't won't to get into what the leyton chairman did that day, because he likes serving writs, and as seems to have lawyers that can win impossible cases for him.I don't want to take the chance.PM me if you want a true account of want went on.

Yeah ask a Enfield Town fan to give you a TRUE account. Don't make me laugh.
