i think it would be an idea to make the previous seasons league position count. if the top 4 places were seeds 1-4, the next 4 teams seeds 5-8, the next 9-12 and bottom 4 in the the league seeds 13-16. obviously the team relegated would replace the promoted team in the top 4.

this suggestion would, in my opinion, lead to some very exciting clashes in the knock-out stages and also promotes the importance of league position to those teams who perhaps lose interest towards end of the season.

any thoughts??

This what what I suggested some while back for two part league cup set up except that I suggested that after the first group stages a second set of groups should be set up for the teams not qualifying for knock out stages.

These non qualifying clubs could play for a trophy of their own thus providing them with something worth playing for in the latter parts of the season.

im not sure i agree with the principle of that borofan as once you are out the cup i think that is that.

BUT if clubs knew league position may benefit their cup campaign the following season then every point would matter.

I feel sure that every team plays as if every point matters BNM1 throughout the season and right through to the end if only as a matter of pride.

I've alwayes been impressed with the attitude of the teams we've played against at the end of the season who are occupying positions towards the bottom of the league.
