The only place that could have been described as a bar within the vicinity was a stand only 'bar' that sold booze over priced - not tv - revolting food etc.

 

I am just not cosmopolitan. I thought as a city Madrid was like London - just hotter. I hate shopping. Hate crowds - unless at a match.

 

All i wanted was to sit in a bar, In a Wetherspoon Style but with perhaps some pre-match action on a tv, surrounded by footy fans. It just did not happen. Most of the fans (locals) appeared from no where before kick off - causing queues at the 'turnstyles'.

 

Don't get me wrong. I loved seeing the stadium and watching the match. I just wanted the 'whole' experience.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I go to Spain to live and breath as the locals do. I do not want to replicate the squalor that those from Basildon and such places do when they all congregate like locusts in one place, turning everything into a mini-shithole..a la England...

she sorted it for me...lived a mile from the santiago and there is a large bar under the santiago bitchypoo but it aint english..

 

there is also a TGI fridays but its fckn chinese..... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

 

there is an irish bar on diego de leon and an english one on calle callehente...they are the only ones that I saw in three years there....madrid is a very nationalistic city and the madrileons (correct in this text) abhor foreign influence... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
