reflections on yesterday

almost surreal actually...the tree squatters camp on the A127 with the hippies all cooking in pots...harry taking the p1ss and leading the singing about my newly shorn barnet...the stand with no roof and the really bright sunshine at the kick off...nathans own goal which was a cracker...seeing manor's flanders actually playing football instead of posting on forums (he had a good game) the numerous penalty appeals not given...the one that was given and all the hands over faces as danny cowley stepped up to take it... .....the snow and the heavy arctic blizzard that followed...treeboy and the traffic cone...the news from burnham and the 12 minutes injury time played there...us all listening to a running commentary from that game on the bedsted chairmans mobile..(thanx terry)..the celebrations and the fans and players on the pitch in the blinding snow...the singing in the bar afterwards...the drive back to our own clubhouse and the real celebrations that followed...the cowleys getting soaked in champers (all changed and tarted up to go out) .... the retaliation that soaked me...the playing of queens 'champions' anthem time and time again...the singing along with it... and the great big mound of pies and chips that terry conjured up from somewhere...now that was a real 'champions' feast...JoLo's little baby grandson taking it all in and of course a few tears as you would expect...

footie days and nights don't come much better than that one...well done urchins...you deserve every second of it and more...

Fantastic day, if damn cold. Credit to Southend, they played a good first half and created the best of the chances, but as ever our resilience was superb and our boys just kept on. Golby, Cowleys, Tiffin and Drake were outstanding, but everyone gave it loads and the result was fair in the end.

Massive credit to all concerned with the club, it's an immense achievement to win a tough, physical league so early. Credit also to the legions of fans who stuck with it and believed. I'm proud to be part of it.

See you on Tuesday!
