Derek, I said I wouldn't hop onto my hobby horse becasue I know what the response would be - you hear it about other lunacies in teh game well: "you can't change the rules once the season has started, you all knew the rules when you started".

 

This is a nonsense argument. We (the clubs and/or the fans, players, everyone) do not make the rules, we can't say "that's daft, we're not entering". Further, because the rule was made last year, two years ago or twenty years doesn't make it a good rule.

 

I have been opposed to play-offs since they came in over 20 years ago. I know the reasoning behind it, it makes more money, and it keeps interest going for over the league all through the season. They are exciting it's true. But look at the lunacy of this situation. There was one game between 2nd and 3rd place, yet there are 19 points between 3rd and 6th places. One cup-style win could put the 6th place team through to the final and maybe into Step 3 next year snf deny that place to the team with the far better record over the season. Yet again mediocrity could be rewarded.

 

This would be my opinion if we had come 1st or 2nd, and will be if we win promotion (which I believe we will).

 

Come on Town, everyone please give them a shout for me this afternoon (would love to come down but I've got a dissertation to do!)

Everyone knows the rules before the league started. And Enfield town have got an excellent chance of going up...

Hope its a big noisy crowd today as that will definetly help. It would be brilliant for everyone if we do get promoted this season.

See? Told you so!<img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> I know everyone knows the rules. Does that make them right? Does everyone - anyone - have a real choice whether to accept them or not? I'd say we have demonstrated the absurdity of them.

 

Anyway, can someone post the result asap afterwards please? I suppose you'll all be in the bar!
