Canvey 2-0 Billericay

Recommended Posts

Much changed side from Tuesday with a number of triallists / fringe players:

Turnidge

Henty McSweeney Heffer Kerrigan

Camara Simmons Ryan D.Collins

Antoine Poole

Subs (all used)

Dormer for Henty

Hunter for Simmons

Game for Camara

Elder for Poole

Lewis for Ryan

Hodges for D.Collins

A.Collins for Heffer

Beggs for Antoine

Triallists:

Leon Antoine - Striker ex Redbridge

Alfie Camara - Right midfielder ex Ipswich U19s

Simon Turnidge - Keeper ex Heybridge

Michael Beggs - Forward ex Eton Manor

Yohance Lewis - Winger ex Redbridge (amongst others)

Alex Collins - Defender, played for us in 1 or 2 EFC matches last season.

Our best chance of the first half came early on when an Antoine header grazed the post, but then gave away 2 sloppy goals. An underhit back pass let them in and Turnidge reacted too slowly to clear the danger. Then minutes later Turnidge totally missed a corner and they've headed in from close range.

2nd half we've made a lot of changes and got into it more, Hodges drew a good save from their keeper, whilst Dorms had a header from a corner blocked on the line.

All in all a reasonable workout, the "first XI" players looked v fit and strong, and I reckon matt will know a lot more about the rest of em from the game.

I must say I thought Canvey looked good, after all their problems I was pleasantly surprised.

Today’s game for us was all about the trialists, and I'm sure a lot was learnt.

As Simon says, the first picks who played, looked very fit an strong, and it was interesting to see how the new lads fitted, or not, within the current squad and game plan..

All in all, a good day at the office.

Good luck Canvey for the coming season, and if you play with that intensity and skill week in, week out, I might just wager a few pounds on you for the league title..

Great crowd as well, enjoy the new beginning, you deserve it.

Thanks very much all of you for your encouragement. It's been hard to get here, but now we're back playing football, everything seems to be clicking into place!

Have a good season.

Yep, the Canvey team deserved the win. Just gotta get your keeper to get his defenders to learn their left from their right! One of those priceless non league moments. Top Stuff! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> As for our trialists I would think Matt knows a lot more about who will stay and who will not. All in all a relaxed day, with a bit of rain thrown in to make it feel more like footie.
