Industrial & Provident Societies have to register for VAT just like any other business. Membership fees VATable.

IPSs also have to pay corporation tax if they make a profit. Yes, even though an IPS is a not-for-profit organisation, that doesn't mean that it can't actually make a profit. The difference is that with an IPS the profit cannot be distributed to shareholders.
