When you paid your fees , did you have to pay VAT?

good question - don't think so - as I didn't see it mentioned anywhere. £27.50 membership and £7.50 admin fee (it is possible the admin fee includes vat).

I was just interested why anyone would pay VAT to a Providence Society...........That doesn't have to pay tax! Where did that money go?

I paid through PayPal and it was just for the £35 fee (converted, obviously).

The reason why I suggested vat might be paid on the admin fees is that the 'operator' of the site is a private company.

Industrial & Provident Societies have to register for VAT just like any other business. Membership fees VATable.

IPSs also have to pay corporation tax if they make a profit. Yes, even though an IPS is a not-for-profit organisation, that doesn't mean that it can't actually make a profit. The difference is that with an IPS the profit cannot be distributed to shareholders.
