Food Police

Recommended Posts

Anybody else see the prog on BBC1 last night called "Food Police"?

I'm a bit concerned about one aspect of it...

Last night they investigated the fish industry and instances of food poisoning from fish consumption. One woman had a terrible reaction and almost died. [but don't worry if you didn't see it, there is no big "scare" about sea-caught fish in general - at the mo'!]

But they showed a health inspector going around the auction hall in Grimsby, and condemning batches of seafood that he considered "unfit for human consumption".

It turns out, there was a skip load of condemned fish...and the worry is, they don't dispose of this fish in a safe manner, but re-use it and reprocess it into animal feed.

On one hand they are concerned about unfit food entering the "food chain"...and next they are encouraging it.

What's going on?

Does it concern any of you lot?

Appreciate your comments on this, the programme, and about the food industry in general. Take it where you want!

If food is not fit for human consumption, it should only be given to animals which are not part of our food chain. Surely after the events of the past years everyone must know that by now. I shall from now on not eat any animals which have eaten fish.

Bridge has brought up an interesting point as to whether dogs are part of our food chain.

Yep........steroids were injected into beef ,chickens and turkeys so they packed on bulk. Probably not allowed now........but there was a prog on TV once accusing Bernad 'BOOTIFUL' Mathews of doing it. Be careful if you go to Norfolk.......there might be some still running around! <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Why do you think The World Health Organisation keep having to develop and vary anti-biotics ??

Coz the meat farmers pump anti-biotics into their stock to lessen the chance of infections ! You eat the meat - You injest the anti-biotic and your body becomes immune to that type of anti-biotic !

Clever, ain't it !

Never been keen on them, but saw a documentary about Chicken Nuggets !

The mere thought of eating them makes me heave now I know what they are !

It's the bacteria which become immune to the antibiotics, and this is happening in a big way. So that many illnesses which have been more or less under control since the widespread use of antibiotics began may well break out again.
