Leyton 0 Billericay 2

Recommended Posts

A workman like performance. Leyton are certainly not a push over and it was nice to see the lads not take them for granted following our great performance against Horsham mid week.

Hunter scored the first with one of his typical but oh so infrequent (this season, anyway) runs into the box, ending with a lob over the keepers head. Leyton (and the ref) didn't make it easy for us and we were prone to make the odd mistake which didn't help our cause.

Second half, we played with a bit more purpose. Half way through, Billy Bricknall was taken off and replaced by Burbs, who latched onto a great cross from Lee Hidges to head home our second.

I would like to say that the players did well and deserved the points.

We're now a point off second place and 16 points off the top grin

Not the best of performances, bit scrappy, but three points is all that counts. Well taken goal by Hunter for the first and a good cross from Hodges and a well placed header from Burbs for the second towards the end.

Leyton were no pushovers although never really looked like scoring. The ref was shocking, seeming to struggle to identify what was a head injury and what wasn't.

Lets keep this run going, still plenty to play for.

Agree with that 100%. Mustn't forget that Staines only managed a draw there last week.

Well taken 1st goal from Leon and we always looked as if we should get the 2nd, but I was relieved when it went in. Cracking well placed header from Burbs.

Margate lost, Horsham & Ramsgate drew, AFCH, AFCW & Staines all won. Still knife edge stuff for those play-off places!

It was a bit of an "after the Lord Mayor's show" after our performance against Horsham, but the fact remains it's another three points in the bin, away from home, with a clean sheet to boot.

These types of game are always tough where the result is kind of expected. Leyton worked hard, kept trying until the end and may have enough to upset a few teams, but in the end a bit of extra quality told.

MoTM for me was Leon. A quality finish and one of a few that looked really "at it" today for me.

I'm a bit loath to have a dig at the ref as quite honestly most of them are rubbish. However this joker took the biscuit as he clearly gave wrong decisions based on fact rather than opinion.

We can't ask for more presently. Let's hope we can keep it up.

Come on you blues!!!!

here lads,we were awesome today, best game we have played since beating you lot at new lodge, think you lot have done well to get back up although the gap was never that far.If we play like that for the rest of the season we will make play off,if we don't then who knows but from the last few games we are better than staines, ramsgate and hendon and i think margate and i thought you were a good side down at the bridge although we did tonk you in december, our problem is we can't live on those results, although 4-0(should of been 8-9) at chelmford is hard not to get carried away with.

In all honesty i would be happy to get you lot at ours i the play offs, bring 6-700 down to the bridge,we have a bit of banter, make some money, laugh at chelmo bbb and then spitroast my cat,PS.we made sure the grass was cut to their specified length and look what happened!!!

P.S ryan, you chilled out yet guv???

IF we were to both make the play-offs, and if we had to play away then your place would be my first choice. Great atmosphere when we came there and an easy journey compared to the others.

But we're getting ahead of ourselves. Far to close at the moment to start counting any chickens. Leave that for the Clarets!

As well a supporting our club, I think we at Billericay celebrate that the past three or four seasons have brought some of the most exciting entertainment over the 9 odd months that the league runs. I can't remember that it has ever been as close before the pyramid re-shuffle...and this season is still not over. Last Saturday's results and league standings show that if any of the top teams slip up, the teams below them are only a couple of points behind them...

...The same can be said about the league leaders. Many have surrenderd the title to them but with players out, injured or suspended, those games in hand that both Staines and AFCW have...nothing is a given. Every team has to be on top their game if you're one point ahead or fifteen points because complacency will only come up and bite you next week, the week after...whenever. King's Canvey Island held comanding positions at this time of the season four or five times, only to slip up when the pressure got to them...

It ain't over until the Fat Lady sings... grin

Hello urchin mentalist, great win for you against the chelmos ,your win against us at the lodge, was the fact that we were at rock bottom, also in confidence,i think we may have had one shot on goal all day, so they made you look good, well! thats my excuse, but as i say the league dosn't lie so we seem to be both be doing well, and good luck to the urchins in the run in home. ps nice to see you have made up with mlg.Blue fan. smile

Whats the matter with everyone, we have just won yet another game (easily) against a side who tried hard but were never really a problem to us. We are still in 5th spot only a pooint behind the 3 teams above us and on a run of results that puts us top of the form league for the last 4,6, and 8 games.

Lets get a bit more upbeat (without getting BBB or complacent) and celebrate the fantastic acheivement the team and new management have made over the past months.

We are back and we intend to stay back!

FROM THE NON LEAGUE DAILY SITE

Joint Billericay Town manager Grant Gordon insisted the shock turn around is all down to his players’ attitude after the Blues tip-toed past Leyton.

Since Gordon and partner-in-crime Jason Broom took over at New Lodge, Billericay have gone from third bottom to fifth place.

Saturday’s 2-0 win at Lea Bridge Road was their fourth victory on the spin and they are right back in the promotion hunt.

Leon Hunter put Town ahead in the first half after neat chest-control and a fine finish. It was game over when the talented Rikki Burbridge headed home Lee Hodges` cross 7 minutes from time.

And Gordon said: “When we took over here they were very down. But everyone now is enjoying playing for the club – the attitude of the players is first class and it’s that which has seen the result turn.

“Leyton may be bottom of the league but Staines Town came unstuck here on Tuesday night. We were only coming here for three points – not goals. We are really satisfied.”

Delboy, read the comments made by the supporters. I see nothing that doesn't celebrate our turn around but I can well understand the "caution" of some. We're 5th and from where we were around Christmas, the turn around is fantastic and credit goes to the players and the management.

If you stand with the supporters, you will experience the belief and the support that the "Blue Army" have for the players, especially on Staurday...just because they are not writing it, doesn't mean they (we) are not upbeat. There is still a long way to go and every team we meet now will be looking to get something out of us...there are no easy games. I think every supporter believes there is a chance to repeat last seasons league standing (there is even a chance that we may exceed it) but we all can read the league table, it's tight with teams having games in hand on us. I'm sure those teams would prefer points than games and the question of "what if?" cuts both ways.

I think everyone, even those that had a concern about the "dual" management team (I am not one of those), is on board and enjoying themselves at the moment and if we (as we) continue to repeat our form from now to the end of the season, the "hyper bowl" of what is happening to our team and club this season will catch alight...the fire of our promotion hopes has been lit but we're fanning the flames carefully and quietly...as we continue, it will burn ever the brighter and fiercer.

Gazza i did not say we should be counting our chickens merely that there seemed a lack of general congratulatiory remarks at winning our 4th game on the trot and being top of the form league.

obviously it was after going to Leyton which is enough to depress anybody and hopefully we wont have to go there again.

I wonder who will replace leyton and previously walton & h next year as places we would rather not go to?

Another great result for us, Leyton worked extremely hard throughout the 90 mins but we were to strong for them.

Two well executed goals and none conceded.

A professional performance by us I thought.

If we go into Saturdays game with the same focus and professional attitude then we should gain another 3 points.

Lets hope Saturdays ref understands that the punters are there to watch football and not him, he was shocking.

"if thats his head ref, then he's upside down" doh

Well done Lads.
