Apparently a certain poster on this forum objects to my posting DFC match reports on here.

If enough people can't access it on DFC and you want it on here, I'd be happy to oblige.

On Gussy's head, be it then !

"A goal on the half hour mark for Chessington and Hook was all that separated Dorking and their visitors on Saturday, sending Chicks to a second consecutive home defeat by the only goal. Chessington had drawn with champions elect Merstham on Tuesday night, and have been in the top sector of the division for most of this season, so although Chicks failed to close the gap on the clubs immediately above them (both Raynes PArk Vale and Cobham also lost again), manager Tony Webb will take some comfort from the fact that as in the recent matches with Horley and Cove, Dorking seem to be competing far better now with the better sides in this division

Dorking had welcomed a contingent of Brockham Badgers FC Under 10 players as mascots for the game, Brockham Badgers being Chicks affiliated youth club, and it was pleasing to see a fair number of children once more attending the ground, including some of Chicks Dorking Girls FC team and Dorking FC's U18 team, the under 18 side having added to the increased optimism around Meadowbank in February following their recent CCL U18 cup quarter final win over Epsom & Ewell FC's U18s. With Dorking admitting children to all home games for free when accompanied by a paying adult, the club hope that more and more youngsters will attend Dorking home games as the season reaches its climax over the two months ahead.

Dorking had gone into the game missing central defender Roy Newman, and central midfielder Dan Lawrence, both of whom had had outstanding games in the 1-0 victory at 3rd placed Cove last week, Dorking welcoming back ex Croydon Athletic midfielder Danny Stassinos and giving a start to Lester Boniface.

After the narrow home defeat to Reading Town in midweek, Dorking were anxious to get back to winning ways after the good wins over Horley Town and Cove at the beginning of February, and it was certainly Dorking who started the better side, Joshua Smith proving a real thorn in the Chessington side with some pacy attacks down the right flank, and Adam Pero looking like a striker in form as he sought to build on his 10 goals for the club already this season. But although Dorking created a couple of half chances in the opening section of the game, it was Chessington who drew what proved to be the only blood of the game, a counter attack seeing a cross flashed in to the Dorking box from the right hand side, with Dave Spence finishing from close range as he made a good run into the box. Chessington then controlled the remainder of the half, and were perhaps unfortunate not to extend their lead when a Chessington striker failed to take advantage of uncertainty between keeper Pierre Bourdet and his defence which led to a golden opportunity for the visitors.

Dorking became increasingly influential in the second period, with Chessington pinned into their half for long periods of the game, and although Chicks had numerous half chances, the ball just seemed not to fall for Chicks in the penalty area as Dorking pressed for the equaliser. The closest Dorking came was 7 minutes from time when the ball was bundled into the goal from a Dorking corner, but the referee, Mr Stephen Earl, having an excellent game, ruled the effort out for an impediment on the Chessington keeper. Dorking pressed to the end, but Chessington held out to take all the points, leaving Dorking to reflect on a game in which they probably should have got at least a point in their quest for safety.

Dorkng now face Banstead Athletic away at Merland Rise on Saturday 23 February. Next home game is a rearranged league game when Cobham visit Meadowbank on Tuesday 4 March 2008, kick off 7-45pm, children accompanied by a paying adult will be admitted free to the ground.
